I think all of them would have been of value to us (not saying we should have signed all three, just that each one of them could have helped). Willis and Barnes could have both stepped in and most likely started at RT. Brown would be good young depth and he can play guard and tackle.

This is per news on main page under "Confirmed no Willis or Brown for Skins.":

Cerrato also denied a report that Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Elton Brown visited the Redskins last week. Cerrato said that as of now, no free agents are scheduled to visit this week.

I doubt we sign Barnes or any other OT before the draft. If one of the top 4 falls to us then Barnes is useless... if none of them fall to us I think there will be some "new" talent on the market then... like Levi Jones. Who knows maybe Barnes will still be available and we'll have some talent to choose from.

To all the doubters... we're gonna be ok. We'll have a nice roster by the time OTA's start and undoubtedly more depth on both lines than we've had in at least a few years.

Hail!

Getting Barnes has little to do with drafting an OT at number 13 in my opinion. Samuels is 32 and is on the decline. Hopefully one of the big4 fall to us then we have our LT for the next ten years. But don't forget that Barnes is only 27 and could hold down the RT position for the next 5-6 years. Considering our needs and how many draft picks we have, we need to sign more linemen in my opinion. Barnes would be great but we need some talented youth outside of the draft to have enough depth.

Take a look at Scheed's/CC's cap sheet... Samuels will be with us for a long time. Yes he got nicked up last year and struggled a bit, but Samuels is still a franchise LT and could easily transition to RT and be dominant there for awhile. Again like I said he's here to stay at least through 2012 and will be a solid starter at one of the two tackle positions till then... so I doubt we take a top OT in the draft and also spend on Barnes, Jones, etc.

Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS

I see what you're saying. But after this year Jansen is gone. And if Heyer doesn't pan out we are not gonna resign him. Im not necessarily saying that we NEED to get Barnes. Just that we do need to start considering the future. Samuels might be on the books but if his play drops off a la Jansen, then we need to do something and I thought it would be nice to have people who could step in pretty seamlessly. Anyways, I am in the majority in that I do not want a sequel to last year where we just didn't have the depth to continue.

My rant is officially over

Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS

Heres the deal. If Andre Smith or Michael Oher fall to us we probably need to take one of them and then hope that out of the deep group of OLB's one of the 80's prospects falls to us in the third round. It's definitely possible to what with 3 guys with first round grades and then four guys with second round grades. Plus last year Dan Conner and Tavares Gooden were graded as late first, early second round prospects and both ended up lasting till the third round and there weren't nearly as many linebacker prospects last year as there are this year.

Still I really wish the team would sign a guy like Barnes and enable themselves to draft Maualuga as well as a guy like Loadholt or Fenuki Tupou.
