Re: Holt released by Rams

We screwed up Jason Taylor. Given our history with Recievers I'd say we'd have a pretty good chance of slightly tarnishing Holt's legacy.

Re: Holt released by Rams

Holt has always been a great receiver but it's time for the rooks to step up and the best way to do that is by playing them.

Agreed. Sink or swim. Kelly and Thomas have had time to 1) learn the playbook front to back 2) become crisp(er) route runners 3) build chemistry w/ JC. It's time to really test them both. We all know what Moss and ARL can do and they're gonna be there all season... let Kelly and Thomas take like 75% of the snaps in preseason.

Re: Holt released by Rams

No way. He was released by the Rams...the 2008 Rams, not the 1999 Rams. There's a very good reason he is unemployed right now, he's no longer a #1 WR. I see him being a nice complement in New England or now in Buffalo. An aging WR clearly on the decline...he's definitely not what the Redskins need.

Re: Holt released by Rams

The Rams are in rebuilding mode.
His drop off in play had more to do with all the injuries the Rams had last year.

He is an older guy but he was never a speed burner. Holt is one of the best route runners ever. I think he will have a 80+ catch year next year if he is in the right environment. I hope he doesn't end up in Philly.

This.

He could be and was and has been and probably might be and most likely is still a very good NFL player. Holt would make us much better in the WR department IMO. Our situation is just tricky right now because our second year receivers are fragile in mind and body and heart.

I don't understand your viewpoint about our young receivers. The NFL isn't kindergarten. If Holt can help us and he's affordable, then the FO should bring him in, even if it slows the young WR's short-term development. The young WR's would simply play less until they improve enough to beat him out. Holt would push them and he could also teach them. That would be a good thing, IMO.

For those that think this was just a cap move:

Torry Holt's release is not surprising given his decline and opens the door for Donnie Avery. - ESPN

Re: Holt released by Rams

Nothing against Holt, whom I admire and believe to have a few big plays left in the tank, but you don't draft receivers with two of your first picks one year and then bring in an aging superstar the next season. That's ridiculous. While we don't know how Kelly and Thomas will turn out as professionals, we made our bed with regard to the receiver position when we drafted them. We are going to have to ride with them, giving them every opportunity to emerge as players this next season.

And I thought Holt was always pretty consistent on wanting to play for Carolina anyway?

Re: Holt released by Rams

In other circumstances, I would love to see Torry Holt in a Redskins uniform, ala Henry Ellard back in the day. Possession veteran who would compliment Moss and ARE very nicely.

However, considering that the Skins have 3 young receivers in Kelly, Thomas, and Davis, along with Moss, ARE, and Cooley, there is simply no room for him. Harrison either.

Re: Holt released by Rams

I think I'm on the bandwagon with Skinsnut. The only question I have is are the bloggers who don't want Pace, Holt, Harrison, etc....the same ones advocating against Daniels, Wynn, and Griffen? We will never have a team of all 24/25 y/o's. There has to be a mix or balance of old and young. The older guys have a lot to teach. Tricks of the trade.

If any of you think Thrash is who we should keep and forget Holt your crazy. I would pick up Holt and cut Thrash. Holt could teach the Rookies percise route running. Perhaps they would learn something from him that they could not learn from Moss. I like Randel El but he's not the one to be teaching anyone anything. He's a 3rd WR at best. Moss is a high 2nd or extremely low 1st WR. Holt would upgrade this offense.

As for Pace. Yes he's old, but he did an admirable job throughout his career including last yr. Why was he let go, for the same reason Holt was....the Rams are trying to get rid of big contracts. To put it another way....we must have let Evans go cause he was useless or crap...right. I believe the issue with Taylor was several fold. His not wanting to be around in the offseason, his injuries, and quite possibly he didn't actually fit our system. He is more of a LB who has free roam and only a DE on certain downs. Miami got the best out of him and we did not.

I don't have a problem with the team picking up Holt on the cheap and maybe he can spell Moss once and a while or be on the field at the same time Moss is to create mismatches. If anything you all should be screaming about the team having a WR on the team who can't catch a cold, can't run decent routes, and is one demensional...The only thing Thrash is, is a special teamer. He is no longer any good at KR also. Oh and he's 30 something. He definitly needs to go due to age.

I know I'm slamming Thrash but I was extremely happy we picked him back up. I liked him and hated to see him go. but being honest with myself all he did last yr was drop balls except for on TD, he ran lousy routes, couldn't shake the defender, and is just as bad as ARE in KR duties. My boy is no longer any good. All he's good for is 1 TD a yr and perhaps being apart of the tackle on KR. However Horton did more of the tackling on KR then Thrash did.

Re: Holt released by Rams

and....for those of you on Kelly and Thomas's "Jock" they may not pan out. I seriously hope they do cause I like both and want two awsome WR's but for those of you who keep saying lets see what they do this yr keep in mind it takes 2-3 yrs before a WR steps up. So if they don't this yr what are we going to do? Let them go and start again? Should we not give them 3-4 yrs to see if they become stars? and until then what do we do? patiently sit back and be mediocre waiting for them to step up? and blame everyone else except them like JC, the line, wait I've got a good one....the HC. cause we would never fire Hixon.

I agree that Hixon should be replaced. We went out out and spent millions on Lloyd and El and we got shitty results. We drafted three pass catchers last season and got shitty results(yeah i know we need to give them time). Has Hixon actually made a WR better since he has been here? Randle El can run excellent routes and is more of a number 3 receiver. Move him to the slot.

Re: Holt released by Rams

Ok, sorry to post so soon after each other. I did some research....I've found a way to please everyone.

Thrash 33y/o; Rec-9, Yrds-81, Avg-9.0, Td's-1.
Holt....32y/o; Rec-64, Yrds-796, Avg-12.4, Td's-3.

See, we can trade out Thrash for Holt, get younger like most of you want , and quite possibly get more Td's in the process.

No complaints right.
