Yeah, he's a bad corner, which means he has to have a huge rush so the qb doesn't have the full 2 seconds it takes for his man to break free.

just about any division game last season, Smoot was brutal. there were times when i watched him on particular plays. and he just doesn't have it anymore. sorry to offend anyone

Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett

Smoot was an absolute beast on the back end of 2007, following Taylor's death. But it seems more so that it was due to playing with extreme emotion. If he could channel that emotion again, maybe he'd go back to being a solid #2/strong nickel. But that doesn't seem as likely.

I think Smoot probably lasts one more year because of his veteran presence in the secondary. I think they'll find room to keep him so that their two back-ups aren't two inexperienced guys in Tryon and Barnes.

Yeah. I think this is Smoot's farewell tour. He may even know it. Fun guy, loved him during his first stint. Glad we got him back. I think he's done now, however, and I hope he doesn't cost us a game along the way.

I wish Smoot was still a solid CB but people are right he just isn't. I will say in his defense we've had a pathetic pass rush which puts more pressure on the secondary than most realize. The result is all of our CBs have given up plays...even the strangely lauded Springs who openly talked about our lack of pass rush and what that meant for his position. In short the strength of our secondary, especially under Williams, had to make up of the weakness of the line. Now there should be more balance...maybe Smooter will "look" better this year and nicely surprise most of us

Good point Goat. I think Smoot will be around for one more year. With Tryon getting better by the reports we're getting and the drafting of Barnes, I think it makes for great competition. Between that and the new pass rush we seem to have, it may bring out the best in him. I certainly hope so. He's a great character and I'm sure his team-mates would miss him but with the competition we now have at that position, his days are probably numbered.

If running his mouth was a paying job, he'd be wealthy man. He's smart enough to own a few Waffle Houses though. That's a good investment, especially when the bars let out. He knows he doesn't have long.

Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett

love the guy, but 1 on 1 coverage isn't his forte any more. If he can press the reciever in a cover 2 he's likely at his best as he'd have deep help. I wonder if they're working him in the slot some?

I think Smoot will be our best corner this year.
I just don't trust DHall to be consistent. He is a crybaby that needs things to go his way for him to excel.
Rogers has the best cover skills but can't make a play when the ball is in the air.

If Smoot is our best corner this year, I'll jump off a bridge.
