I like CP, but i sure hope your wrong but i got this bad feeling u might be right. Portis has lost some steps and cant seem to pick up his feet high enough off the ground with out tripping, maybe its in his contract to lead the league in phantom tackles. But we should trade him while we can, got to admit he is the best pass blocking back in the league.

Portis' and Sellers' arguing the other day got me thinking about players on our roster who are still serviceable, but probably not going to be a part of the latest rebuilding effort in DC. So the question is, name players that could still have some trade value and/or represent addition by subtraction. Madden rules apply. (no salary cap considerations, draft status, just who needs to go)

My list:

1. Portis. Quite simply, the dude has lost more than a step. He's not really outrunning anyone anymore and his habit of tripping over his own feet when he does break free is frustrating. Couple that with the fact that he doesn't have the physical makeup to be a battering ram and an act that is increasingly wearing thin; and it's time to move on. (i understand this is borderline impossible with the cap)

2. Moss. Inconsistency is the new hallmark of his game. Lazy on some of his routes and hands that are becoming TO-like. Doesn't seem to have the makeup to be a veteran coach type player. Plus, he's one dimensional, once his wheels start to go, it's over. He's still fast so maybe trade him to the Raiders for two first round picks. (oh wait, we're not New England.)

3. Campbell. With our pick in the top 12 of the draft next year, I see us going QB, despite the needs we have at Oline. Campbell just needs to get the hell out of DC. He's a serviceable qb, but he's not going to carry a team with as many holes as the Redskins. I'd love to see a sign and trade for a mid round pick, but I doubt it happens. I can definitely see him succeeding somewhere else.

4. Laron Landry. What have you done in your time in DC? Hmm? Nothing... yup, sounds about right. Despite ridiculous physical gifts, you can't tackle to save your life. You're a strong safety trying to play free. I'm not sure some of the ineffectiveness hasn't been a result of scheme. I mean, does any other team in the league keep the free safety 25 yds off the line of scrimmage? That said, Horton and Doughty are proving to be "good enough" at SS, Landry probably has some value around the league. Really, my hearts not in this one but LL has been extremely disappointing.

(ok, let the "retarded thread" bashing begin. )
Hey can you tell me where to buy what you are smoking.

Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?

I would cut Portis first. If 2010 is uncapped they need to take advantage of it and cut every player they have with a bad contract. This CBA mess could be a real advantage to the Redskins in terms of fixing thier salary cap. Its a real opportunity for the next coach to start with a clean slate. I really hope thats the way they look at it as opposed to trying to load up for a half assed title run.

Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?

I know this thread isn't supposed to account for salary cap issues, but celts raises a very good point. We need to take advantage of an uncapped 2010.

- Andre Carter - Orakpo needs to move to the full time RDE, forget the SLB. Carter may have some trade value for a draft pick.
- Randy Thomas - Injuries have taken their toll. We must dump his contract in the uncapped year.
- Portis - Others have metnioned several good reasons, plus I can think of $10M more.
- Todd Collins - Weak armed game managers don't get paid $ 3.5M / yr.
- Betts - no production, no upside.
- Davis - I think this guy has potential, but unless we have a coaching change that's going to employ a ton of 2TE sets and actually get the second TE the ball, Davis is a waste. He has trade value, get a pick for him.
- Cartwright - no production
- Daniels - old, slow
- Colt Brennan - the Cult was fun for a while, but getting outplayed by a 5' 10" rookie says it all.
- Moss - but only in a trade for at least a 2nd round pick. He can still be productive.
- Smoot - slow, major liability in man coverage.
- ARE - $ 5M / yr. is way too much for a 3rd or fourth receiver that has no value in the return game

I'm holding on to Landry. The point about him missing tackles is fair. The point about GW mentioning he was a sure tackler is also a valid point. Why the contradiction? Landry is a good tackler near the LoS, not particluarly good in space, IMO.

The jury is currently deliberating on JC. We'll find out over the next few weeks. If he continues the same level of play as the last two weeks, he will need to go and will likely have very little or no value.

Even if JC goes, IMO it is time to find a replacement for Samuels in the first round of the 2010 draft. He's slowing down and is getting beaten more frequently off the edge. Rabach will be serviceable for another year, Rinehart, Heyer, Dock should be fine. If we're able to get a high caliber LT, Samuels should be shopped after the pick.

Yeah I have to agree with you on all the above, even Colt. Why we released Daniel and kept Colt was moronic, but it is all a moot issue now. Brennan was a late rounder for a reason.

I like this idea of cutting guys without taking penalties for thier contract because of the uncapped year. This would be heaven sent for several guys ARE, Portis, Andre Carter, Moss (id keep him, but his contract crazy), and Randy Thomas (he is gone away). If no penalty is the case, we would be crazy not to get rid of these guys for a fresh start. Look to the draft to build the team. We also need to resign Rocky and ill catch some heat for this but Carlos too to reasonable contracts. Anybody suggesting we cut Landry is crazy.

So you guys want to basically fire everyone, cut everyone, trade everyone but will be bitching and complaining about how badly we suck again. Odd.

i think it depends on if you believe we are closer to success than failure. Personally, I don't think we're "one or two guys" away from being a contender. I think you need a certain culture to consistently win and we have some players that need to go in order for that to happen. To me, model franchises are Pats, Chargers, Eagles(just threw up in my mouth) and Steelers. What they have in common is that one player is never bigger than the team, they build wisely through the draft and they don't sentimentally hang on to players. It hasn't wo the Chargers or Eagles a superbowl, but they've been quality teams now for what, last 5-6 years? I'd take that over this clusterfuck any day.

Atleast if we suck we'll have a reason to know why. Plus we will know the team is building continuity with no name players vs. primidona's.

I can't believe everyone is so quick to piss on the only guy to beat the Giants, Todd Collins.

That could just be true....he is The Real McCoy!

And McNeil would be an instant replacement over CS, not so sure SD wouldn't like to retain his services.
