Well...it would be really difficult next season. Not impossible but difficult. Crazy how we have a Monday Night game coming up

From what I heard Schefter a few weeks back his contract would make it difficult to leave ESPN right away, but not impossible. At that time Schefter said the chances of Gruden coming back for 2010 was "less than zero".

The text I just got from the Redskins says Allen will replace Cerrato as "team VP." Can we please just call him GM?

From what SS is saying, the GM role could still go to Shanahan

We may not hire someone with the title of GM...we haven't had one. So Allen could be Vinny's direct replacement in job duties? With Shanny as the head coach with some input in the personnel decisions?
I'd hope and expect that Allen and Shanahan would work TOGETHER as opposed to the HC trying to control the team completely. That usually doesn't end well, but I'd have more faith in Shanahan than Holmgren to succeed in the dual role. With this speculation, I'd still love to get Gruden despite his ESPN contract.

I was listening to ESPN980 and they were saying that Allen was being named VP & GM.

I guess one other option is one more year with Zorn, his contract ends and then you go after someone in 2011? A lot going on. A lot

Redskin history is being revisited here. Allen knows this city well and has a history here, should be good for the city. Allen's brother is also good friends with Snyder.

I'm all for Jon Gruden being hired as coach......he's fiery and he gets in players faces that are sucking...he can light a fire under everyone's ass here...thats what we need

I agree but he was fired for not being able to communicate with the players. When he was let go I remember very well that a lot of the players did not have nice things to say about him. That does concern me a little bit.

Look at Zorn and the players' relationship with him. He's their buddy, they DO support him and play hard for him, yet he doesn't make the tough and necessary decisions with the team. If Gruden were the coach, there's no way Randel El would be given a countless number of chances to repeat failure and Landry wouldn't be allowed to relax so many times on coverage without long-term and tough repercussions.

I'm glad they brought someone in early.
They have an opportunity to study the players they currently have before moving on to the draft. 3 Games Left, Let players start earning roster spots for next year and figure out who can be let go. |
