NFL Players Weigh In On Haynesworth Situation

Man I hope he shows up to one of the camps that is open to the public.

I would love to go there, and tell him how I feel. It would be crazy the number of fans that will be booing him. He will hug the far end of the practice field when entering and exiting lol.

I had a gut feeling that Shanny would make sure that AH is traded by July 29th so that AH couldn't be a distraction at Training Camp. But, as time goes on, it's beginning to look like AH may be at camp, after all.

Obviously, the best case scenario would be that AH comes to camp in shape and ready to go. I think we all know that he can dominate and there's no doubt in my mind that we would be a better team with him than without him. So now I'm starting to think that, if AH makes it to camp, he'll be here for the long haul as long as he can meet Shanny's minimum standard of behavior. It seems to me that every team has at least one player who is a pain in the neck. AH just makes more money than the rest of them.

When Haynesworth has visited other cities, such as Miami, Smith has accompanied him. Haynesworth and Smith have been apart for only 2 weeks since April, but Haynesworth maintained his routine even then, Smith said.

"He told me, 'I want to go from April all the way through to July, nonstop, and be ready,'" Smith said.

He wants to weigh less than in past years, Smith said, so there has been more cardiovascular work in addition to the position-specific, explosive weight-lifting exercises to which he's accustomed. Haynesworth weighed 362 pounds on April 5 and checked in yesterday afternoon at 330, Smith said. Haynesworth was listed at 350 in the Redskins' 2009 media guide.

Smith also added boxing training to Haynesworth's routine for the first time. Two days a week for 45 minutes, Haynesworth hits a heavy bag or focus mitts.

"If he can have quicker and more powerful hands than the offensive lineman, then he's going to stand a much better chance of shedding blocks, throwing guys off and getting a quicker punch to them," Smith said. "We've been doing a lot of boxing, and I think he really likes it."

This is a great article...but his weight loss certainly suggests that Haynesworth is trying to avoid having to play the nose full time.
Another good thing is that it makes him far more marketable if the Skins want to trade him. A leaner, quicker Haynesworth may be worth keeping at DE.

Note that even though this is his "personal trainer"...the guy has trained Haynesworth for 3 years straight and actually lives with him...he is probably the closest guy with accurate information regarding Haynesworth's body and mind at this time.

Why ask the translation? Its not rocket science. His actions are worth a thousand words. Fat Al is all about Fat Al plain and simple.

He could care less about team OR well he would have been in DC the last several months working with the rest of the TEAM!

I agree. The bottom line for me remains that he purposely chose to skip the mandatory mini-camp. At this point, if he wants respect, he has to show up on time, go full force in whatever position Haslett puts him in, and earn his starting spot back - which I am sure he can if he wants it.

I really have zero confidence on that happening. He's got a lot to prove at this point.

It's going to be surprising to some how well Haynesworth will be received once he shows up for camp in shape. A great many things have been said during the course of his absence but the bottom line is football.

With the money he's being paid there's no way he's going to sit. Come opening day I look for him to be in the starting line-up.

At least one football talking head has said that this sort of thing happens all the time and that should he show up it will all be water under the bridge (I think this particular talking head mentioned Strahan's hold out as an example). Besides I'm sure the attention will shift to players that are planning to continue their hold out into the season (I think Vincent Jackson is one of them, I could be wrong).

Personally, I think he'll be damaging his career (further) if he holds out during training camp and into the season. Honestly, at this point I don't care what he does or what is said about him now, because as someone has said he just need to show up for training camp and get to work.

Showing up in good shape will be a good start, but I think he's got a bit more to do before everyone considers this past offseason water under the bridge. He better be ready to work his tail off and do anything the coaches ask of him with no complaining.

That said I still can't shake this feeling that he's not going to be in a Redskins uniform this year.

I don't know but his credibility would be completely shot if he's wrong in 2 weeks.

If AH shows up to play Week 1, and breaks Tony Romo, all is forgiven. For me at least. I am sure some of you think otherwise.
