Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)

I dont think this trade indicates an even remote interest in beck himself. I think what it means is that the Shanahan's have determined that Colt is garbage and they needed to find a QB who could atleast provide some competition for Bartel.

I know there's been talk of the Skins only carrying two QBs on the active roster, but thats foolish speculation in my opinion. Yeah, Shanahan's done it before, but never with a QB as brittle as McNabb. At some point, McNabb is going to miss atleast one game. We simply can't go into a game with Grossman as the the only active QB. We don't even have ARE any more to serve as an emergency guy. In the end, Bartel's our third QB and we're just bringing in Beck to push him to improve.

Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)

The Cut of Colt re-emerges.. He was saved by a hip injury last summer, now he may not get another pre-season game snap with the Skins..

It doesn't say too much that Beck was traded by the team that employs the coach who originally drafted him. Oh well.

** EDIT ** As I was saying...
ESPN 980 has learned that QB Colt Brennan has been released.

So, John Beck is 29 years old. Just one year younger than Grossman and a year (well, more like four months) older than Campbell.

Would have liked this trade a lot more if he was 26 or something, but those mormon missions will really kill your pro career.

I couldn't believe he got drafted at 25. I remember the Dolphins taking him and everybody was talking about what a reach it was and now look at him. He's been cut, signed with another team, and traded to another team for a camp scrub. That's pretty bad for a 2nd round pick haha.

Bartel is probably the practice squad/emergency QB in all possible outcomes. That's better security than Beck, who is competing with Grossman to make the team.

Shit Bartel, Beck, Grossman?????? After Donovan that is what we have to work with? Shit, give me Gus back. You might think I am nuts, but the guy went 8-3 replacing Jackson at Minnesota, and still has something left in the tank probably. You can get him at league minimum also. Not saying have him anything other than QB #3, but damn, he is going to be better than Grossman, Beck, or Bartel. Well, at least better than one or two of these guys.

Is this rabid obsession all due to your dad and Tulsa?

Trying to be funny here Smooty. But I hate to say it I might not be that off the mark in reality. Gus isn't the best by far, but I rather have a former Pro Bowl QB that although might not be super, can still manage a game and win. Beck's numbers suck the big one, and Bartel isn't ever going to get higher than #3 on any teams depth chart. Grossman plain sucks. I wouldn't mind seeing Gus as our #3 for a one year deal til we draft another QB to replace him. Honestly now. You are going to tell me you rather have Beck than Gus? Like I said Gus ended his last season being active with a 8-3 record. His stats weren't good, but he did the job with AP. We have LJ, CP, and WP. I think he could win games for us if the unthinkable could happen.

My dad went to Va Tech and W Va. No connection with Tulsa. And it isn't such a rabid obsession as it is just pure schtick, although I am a Gus fan for sure!!!!! The Cult of Colt is dead, but the legions of Gus fans live on!!!!!

Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)

I like the move. I want John Beck to be successful here in DC. I assure you it has nothing to do with the fact that we share a last name and that I'd love to have a jersey with my name on it without looking as pretentious as I actually am....

Meant your uncle and Tulsa (unless I'm off about that), and I know it's basically schtick...like me and Jevan Snead.

Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)

As I stated in the Colt thread, this move is interesting. Shanahan has stated he usually carries only 2 QBs. Although Beck's chance of making the team is not zero, it surely isn't much above 5%. Did they need another arm to throw balls to our 10 WR's?

I think the CB Dutch probably wouldn't have made the team either, but perhaps (?) he had a higher chance of making it.

Then again, Shanahan doesn't seem to play favorites, and if this guy magically impresses and shows the potential that made him a 2nd round pick.. I guess he could beat Rexy. Seriously doubt it. Practice squad as detailed above....

Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)

Yeah, he's an arm for camp but I do think he's here for competition for the #3 job. MS has went with only 2 QBs in the past so that's a possibility, but it seems more likely that he'll carry 3.
