Now Shanahan can draft his future and Redskins future prospect whoever that will be and groom him behind McNabb.

Instead of losing him to Free Agency and finding a way to fill the QB position and waiting for him to learn the offense or Sexy Rexy being our starter,we can now look to address the O-line,WR and what other positions of need in upcoming seasons.

GREAT JOB BRUCE!!

I agree with this..I personally don't give a crap how much we pay a player as much as how long they are reasonably under contract.
5 years is perfect for McNabb...I see 2-3 years starting and 2-3 years backup with some sort of restructure for years 4-5...It looks like McNabb will end his career with us after all....and that is a very good thing.
I am sure an older McNabb will certainly be as effective as an older Brunell.
It seemed to work pretty well with Brunell and Campbell....but before you guys kill me....odds are the parallel future combo of McNabb and young QB yet to be determined will be far more effective....especially assuming our oline and aggressive playcalling improves over the next year or two.

This also says a lot about Shanny's future....he is going to stick with McNabb for at least this year and next and probably 1 phase out year.
That means Shanny has no plans to bail for at least 3 years...depending on how effective our new young QB pans out.
Of course, I may be reading a bit much into this but I see this move as an AWESOME MOVE.

Ya gotta finish what you started...and the skins just did that with McNabb.
Don't worry...McNabb always responds well....he is a pro and an offensive leader...I expect him to play well tonight and going forward....regardless of the oline. A win would be a nice suprise to me tonight....as we have major issues on both lines and Vick is on fire.

Exactly.

This is the right move for the team. The redskins have never had success drafting QBs because of a. lack of stability at coach and b. lack of an O-line. (shuler, ramsey, campell). Even in Gibbs 1 - we won because of the O-line. They made the many QBs look good. (theisman, schrader, williams, rypien)

DMAC is smart enough to give us a chance with an incomplete O-line. He's also a positive personality and most importantly a leader. JC never had that leadership quality and DMAC is a unifying force for the team.

The knock on him is choking in big games - like an NFC championship of SB. When we get there we can worry about that.

With this extension we have a legit QB and a legit coaching staff. We can put in place the O-line through the draft and the playbook which really takes 2-3 years.

Once we have an O-line we can draft a young QB who can start 3-4 years from now.

Nice, so much for the racist talk eh?

Let's see how the numbers are structured before we get too crazy.

That self important kid's book author should stick to speculating on golf. If all else fails, bring race up to make yourself relevant again.

Very excited about this deal for Donovan. Very excited for the team. A true leader, a true quarterback. And now, he, and everyone else KNOWS this is his team.

Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension

Not sure how I really feel about this. I feel the QB play is by far the most critical part on the team but is McNabb worth this type of dough for past accomplishments? (on another team at that) Make no mistake, this isn't a Manning or Brady here.

I will say this, he is heads/shoulders above Jason Campbell in any shape form or fashion, but it's still a 50/50 come the 2 minute drill on whether D. McNabb does anything or not.

Obviously, quarterbacks naturally get the biggest dough, but even so, he now has more guaranteed money than Haynesworth.

Good, Daniel Snyder has the money. Some of you are acting like the money is coming out of your pockets.

Your sentiments were echoed by some about Haynesworth as well.

$$$ I could care less about it the fact we are stuck with him for the next 2 or 3 years. We will see maybe it is a blessing.

Sounds like it's really 5 years, $40M. That's the guaranteed money.

Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension

DM is a pretty damn good qb. He's no Manning or Brady, but he's pretty good. We could do alot worse.

Maybe if he had an oline that was worth a sh**, I'd listen to the criticism. He's made the best this year out of a terrible oline.
