If all five of those players are gone, then I'm looking for OLBs or DEs such as Cameron Jordan, Robert Quinn, etc. My pick would be on that side of the ball.
Why Gabbert?

Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week

I really can't believe all the people who have voted for QB either. I just don't see anyone worth rolling the dice for at #10. Take a guy you know is going to be a stud starter for years to come in one of the many other positions in need of an upgrade. Any of the QB's taken at #10 this year will not be close to guaranteed starters on this roster for years to come. We can't afford more set backs.

Cameron Newton, Auburn
Height: 6-6. Weight: 246.
Projected 40 Time: 4.64.
Combine 40 Time: .
Pro Day 40 Time: .
Hand: .
Projected Round (2011): Top 16 Pick.

1/24/11: Cam Newton had a brilliant season, parlaying a $180,000 contract into a national championship. He's very raw, but possesses enough tools to intrigue a team like the Dolphins.

7/25/10: Cameron Newton has great size and athleticism to be a very effective collegiate quarterback, but like Dan LeFevour, will be downgraded for playing in a gimmick offense.
There is something about Newton that just makes me think he would not fit well in our scheme. WalterFootball might have explained it best but I would have said he just doesn't look to have enough patients to wait for a play to develope before deciding to run. It's one thing to scramble to get away from pressure or scramble to get to a better position to throw the ball but Newton looks (to me) like he would rather run the ball like Mike Vick in his early years.

Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week

For the Mallet lovers....
Quote:
Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas - Scouting Report
Height: 6-7. Weight: 238.
Projected 40 Time: 5.05.
Combine 40 Time: .
Pro Day 40 Time: .
Hand: .
Projected Round (2011): 2-3.
1/24/11: Ryan Mallett has JaMarcus Russell-like character concerns and a Byron Leftwich-like release. There's upside, but that's about it.

10/1/10: Mallett's team is winning and he's putting up good stats, but if you take a closer look his accuracy is highly inconsistent, he has poor mechanics, and he struggles with mobility and has a hard time eluding pass rushers. Mallett is a bit of a statue in the pocket and doesn't create throwing lanes outside the tackle box when his receivers struggle to get open. We're not buying the hype anymore, and neither should you.

3/29/10: At 6-7 with a massive arm, Ryan Mallett looks like a franchise quarterback. His 2009 numbers (3,624 yards, 30 TDs, 7 INTs, 9.0 YPA) will tell you that as well. He's a bit raw and needs to work on decision-making, but he could easily leapfrog Jake Locker on this list next year.

Problem solve! All we have to do is draft him, get him hooked on illegal dog fighting, hold onto him until after he gets out of jail, and, SUPER BOWL! BOOK IT!!

Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week

Here is CBS's take on Newton, I'm posting the negatives yes I know only so people can see the issues he has. But he does have positive sides to him also....

Quote:
Setup/Release: An area of legitimate concern. Takes virtually all of his snaps out of the shotgun and while he clearly has the athleticism to handle dropping back from center, will be making the difficult transition of doing so while making multiple reads of the defense -- something he wasn't often asked to do at Auburn. Possesses an efficient, over the top release with good follow-through. Generally steps into his throws, though he will too often fail to do so when on the move. Stops his feet and will shotput throws, leading to passes fluttering and coming up short.
Quote:
Reading Defenses: Another area of concern. Was only asked to make 1-2 reads at Auburn before having free reign to tuck the ball and run with it. Rarely was challenged with complicated blitz packages as collegiate defenses typically were more worried about protecting against the run. Essentially will be asked to make twice as many reads in half as much time in the NFL.
Quote:
Intangibles: Scouts question whether he has the football intelligence necessary to handle the myriad of formations and adjustments to be successful in a pro offense. Though his football IQ has been questioned, scouts rave about his poise on and off the field, as well as his leadership ability.
Quote:
On the Move: Clearly his greatest trait. Buys time in the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield. Can elude defenders in tight quarters due to good elusiveness for the position. Rare acceleration. Possesses a second gear to sneak through cracks in the defense and break away. Possesses rare strength and size. Can bowl over defenders to gain yardage. Every bit as dangerous as a runner as he is a receiver. Capable of completing throws with defenders draped on him.

Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week

I hope the majority who said QB didn't do so with Locker on their mind. Why? Because seriously ... there is 9 teams ahead of the Skins who; will be, could be, or might be looking for a QB and if Locker is the top QB as every media pundit is trying to do with him right now .... he most likely will be gone by #10.

I wouldn't be shocked if Locker is taken before Gabbert

I hope all of the QBs are taken before #10 so Von Miller will still be there...

No fing way. That guy is fast as ****. He makes SEC safties and cb's look like pylons.

@skinzwin

I doubt Dalton will be there in the 2nd, I've heard he's impressing a lot of scouts so far. Also saw ponder was hurt? And Titus young was compared to desean Jackson now that's saying something

Dalton's college football highlights look impressive. However, I think the sleeper will be Colin Kaepernick of Nevada will make an impression on you guys soon if he hasn't done it already.
