I think that Vinny made the mistake by not hiring G. Williams from the start. He hung himself by picking Zorn.

G. Williams would have been a horrible hire as well. What about his time in Buffalo makes you think he would have been a good head coach?

Some guys are great coordinators, but suck at being head coaches. Here, I'll name a few.

Don Capers
Wade Phillips
Norv Turner
Greg Williams
Charlie Wiess
Dick Jauron

I'm sure I can come up with a few more given more time.

GW would have stunk it up if only because Vinny would have F'd things up for him, and GW wouldn't have put up with his shit.

All things equal with a supportive front office structure in place, I'd hire Williams over Zorn as HC anyday. Wouldn't you?

While I'm not necessarily defending Gregg Williams as a head coach, let me state that just because a guy sucks it up as head coach on one team doesn't meant he will never be head coach material. Just take a look at Bill Belichick. Compiled a 36-44 record from '91 -'95 as the Cleveland head coach and look what he did in New England.

But as far as Vinny goes, the best thing he could have done for the Redskins was to hire Zorn as head coach, because that move ultimately led to the demise of Vinny Cerrato as Redskins' General Manager and that's a good thing.

Agreed, I think the reason he didn't hire GW is GW wouldn't put up w/ any of his crap. I'm guessing.

Yeah I think we've all heard and aware about Zorn's stubborness, but what business does Cerrato have blasting Zorn? That hire was 100% on Cerrato.
Wise should be asking that same question

Unless you have inside info im not aware of,and im not saying you dont,I just find it hard to believe that Zorns hire was all on Vinny.matter of fact theres no way i believe it,Snyder had to approve it,Vinny wouldnt have done it without Dans ok.And wasnt Snyder in most of the meetings with the candidates? Im not taking up for Vinnie,I just think Snyders to blame also

Well, and I think I've said this before, when Gibbs retired Snyder decided to give VC total control (and as I had heard it, two years). And while there others Fassel) Snyder would have preferred he decided to do what everyone wanted him to do and cede the decision making. So yeah he's ultimately to blame for ceding control to VC. And I guess ultimately his biggest fault in all of this was inaction

Re: Cerrato on Zorn

I also want to add, that the biggest mistake from the Redskins (second to hiring Vinny) was hiring a offensive and defensive coordinator BEFORE a head coach. No coach in their right mind would ever step foot into a situation like that. They are the ones that hire the offensive/defensive coordinators and to have them already picked?...lol

Who did they expect would want the job? It's exactly why their only resort was Zorn. The ****ing idiots Vinny and Danny. They remind me so much of Dumb and Dumber. They belong together.

Remember Snyder talking about "continuity" after Gibbs left?

I think Danny thought that they could win w/the roster they had, and basically told Vinny that he would have a lot of authority but that they had to keep Blatch, etc. At 6-2 in 2008, they both were probably thinking they had a good plan.

Fassel to be exact. But after the fan backlash to those rumors they went to plan B.

Zorn was desperate for an opportunity, he just had no idea what he was getting himself into. As for Vinny, he should have stayed packing when Schottenheimer origionally sent him.
