Well, I think they resigned Sellers for a couple more years ( i could be wrong). Maybe Gibbs wants to expand his role this year?

You may be right....especially considering at least one of those guys (the later pick) may end up on the practice squad this year.

Re: June 1st Cuts.

I think the main target for a cut /retire is Barrow. If his knee doesn't hold up, and why would we think it would it would, then he has to be gone. I'd say there's a better than 50% chance he retires. Hasslebeck may end up getting cut since why would anyone trade for him when the Skins are clearly going to have to cut him barring an injury that allows them to IR him. I think Rock is gone. As well as McCants.
You have to look at the makeup now and guys like Rock and McCants have no place on the team. Right now Sellers plays in front of Cartwright and the new guy is certainly going to make the team before him. That leaves a potential third FB spot(do they even keep 3?) for Rock or the other new guy. The other new guy is cheaper and it will cost no cap space to cut Rock. He's gone. McCants is in the same boat for sure now that Gardner is staying(presumably). The WRs are Patten, Moss, Thrash, Jacobs, Gardner. There is certainly a chance they grab someone of the waiver wire post June 1. There's no way they keep more than 6 WRs and whose spot does he take? He's not getting a spot in front any of the first four I listed and there is no way the Skins will simply cut Gardners if they wouldn't trade him because they didn't get enough value. That would be more than retarded. McCants for this team. Those are probably the biggest name cuts but we'll see as always.

Say Gardner does get it together this year, you all think we'll shop him or resign him?

Well, I think the resigning part would have to come first, but to truly see if Gardner can rekindle the magic of his rookie season, we would have to see him for the whole season. Maybe to sign him with a one year league minimum deal....that's better than sittin on your rump watchin' football. This could be his year to say I am going to prove all these teams including the Redskins that I come to play...maybe by season's end the Redskins will have a change of heart, but thinking in more terms of a realist, he's probably gonna get cut.

Re: June 1st Cuts.

I see no reason why they wouldn't try adnf resign him if he steps it up and becomes a valuable part fo the receiving corp. I would think with the way they ahve tried to tear him he would eb amenable too.

Re: June 1st Cuts.

It would be nice if he could finally get it together. I'm just worried because he's had ENOUGH time to get it together. Good thing is, we set a precedent with Smoot/Pierce so that Gardner would know we won't overpay him.

Re: June 1st Cuts.

That would be a shame. I would think that since he has something to prove, they might try to fit him into the offense.

June Cuts

All this talk about Gardiner's future makes me wonder who will we be cutting after June 1st.

Gardiner would save us 2.7 million, which I think is the #1 reason for why we should cut him. If Michael Barrow's knee doesn't progress, he would be another cut, which would save us an additional 2.1 million. Finally, both Cory Raymer and Chad Morton could be on their way out - each saving us about a million.

The total for these four cuts would be around 7 million, which would leave us with 8 million or so in cap space for this season.

That money could be used to resign Santana Moss (to a reasonable contract - please God, just this once, lets not overpay for a guy); our rookies; and possibly fill holes at DE and WR with other June cuts.

Crap - I just heard we won't cut Gardiner.

That blows. I think he is so inconsistent and is taking time away from younger guys who can catch over 50% of the balls that hit them in the hands.

Where did you hear that? I hope it's true. Were going to need him. Unfortunatley he's are only big WR.

Re: June Cuts

So if Gardner stays will he be # 2 as of now? I dont think moss is any more reliable. To me Thrash is our best receiver, and then Jacobs.

thrash MIGHT be our 4th best receiver if that right now. he couldn't even get 1000 yards with a MUCH better QB throwing to him as a #1.
