Briesel and Mathis are def solid players. Wouldnt be mad about either one. Im just really concerned if we just stick with Kory L, that injury was tough.

For real.

My take is that I'd like to see some depth in the interior. I think Kory L. was doing a good job when he got hurt. I would say the biggest need may be RT, I really didn't think Brown did that great of a job.

Oh and as a general comment for everyone We get it, we ALL know that QB is the biggest need for the team, no reason to repeat it every time and every thread especially when we are trying to talk about other areas.

It's interesting that a lot of teams supposedly talked to Rieff at the combine about playing guard

Isn't the knock on Rieff that he plays too upright and stiff, which is less of a liability in a guard than in a tackle?

Were the Skins one of those teams? Only thing I heard about Rieff was his stock has been dropping big time.

Look at the Colts O-line last year without Peyton Manning under Center. And look what happened when John Beck played against one of the worst pass rushing teams in the NFL, the Bills. He was sacked 10 times. QBs that can make Defenders miss, don't hold onto the ball too long and can anticipate where the pressure is going to come from before the ball is snapped take a lot of pressue off their O-lines. QBs that punish the blitz like Kurt Warner did so well, make Defenses play in nickel and dime sets more often. Look how the Jets play Brady - 3 down linemen with 8 DBs.

I didn't get the sense that our QBs were under constant duress last year, and the running game looked pretty damn good late in the season even though we were missing starters on the O-line. Plus, there are ways to negate a good pass rush with play calling. Draw plays, screen passes, bootlegs, etc.

I laugh when people claim we have SO MANY holes. Every team has holes. The Giants were dead last in Rushing and the Pats were one of the worst Defenses in the league all year. Aaron Rodgers was one of the most sacked QBs in the league when they won it all, and so was Big Ben when one of the times they won it.

I have no doubt we'll add some pieces across the O-line and will find a WR either in Free Agency or the Draft, but until we get a legitimate starting QB, the team will appear to have more holes than it really does.

Besides, isn't Shanny known for making good O-lines out of middle to late round no-namers that fit his zone blocking scheme?
I agree with this whole post. Our O-line may not be elite but a good qb behind it will make a decent line that much better.

Re: O-Line Edition: Free Agency and the Draft

i agree we need a RT and an OG. send chester to the bench and brown to the unemployment line.

our line kinda got it together at the very end last year, but a quality tackle would be welcome.

we'd still need to get a QB, #1 WR and a DB (safety and/or #1 CB) first though in order of needs... I think the WR/RT have to be FAs since our draft will either send picks for RGIII or draft a guy claiborne at 6 and a QB in the 2nd round. you can get OG/Cs in the 3rd without too much trouble.

Re: O-Line Edition: Free Agency and the Draft

LT-Williams
LG-DeCastro
C-Lichtensteiger/Montgomery (health issue for Lightensteiger)
RG-Chester
RT-Brown or Smith

I say drafting DeCastro after trading down is the way to go, best G since Steve Hutchinson. Rather have him than drafting a RT since Smith showed he could play. If you guys haven't seen DeCastro pull, I suggest you find a you tube video and watch him in action.

Another reason to draft him is to keep the Cowboys from drafting him, they would have one of the best young OL's if they do. I rather it be the Redskins.
