No one likes to be slighted or disrespected, and you don't forget it when you are.

I think Kirk thought that he was better than RG3 from day one. Hell Shannahan wanted Kirk.

Snyder was in RG3's jock from day one. Even when he sucked Snyder was still in his jock.

Then you have the Cleveland game, and Snyder ignores Kirks win.

That stuff can go deep.

It's no accident he came up with the phrase "You like that."

His whole experience in Washington was to prove everyone wrong. To prove he is the man.

He did it. He proved it. Kirk was all about Kirk to prove something. And he did it. That determination a lot of time helped the team and sometimes hurt the team.

Alright Admins. I don't know about anybody else, but I'm ready for this thread to be locked and us to finally move on from Kirk Cousins. He's moved on. Let's put this in the past.

What's disingenuous about what you quoted? Cousins calls a spade a spade.

The idiot Redskins front office had plenty of choices to sign Cousins. They chose to use the franchise tag until they priced Kirk out of reach, with the climbing value of the tag and the market value of QBs. That is completely on the front office.

Here's a good summary of what the Redskin FO did:

Cousins Interview | The Team 980

The interview confirmed that Scot McCloughan was behind the team’s initial contract offer in late 2015. Cousins revealed that it happened before the Bears game in December of ’15. Cousins implied that McCloughan was smart and wanted to do it before the final few games of ’15 because he thought it was the right time to get a team-friendly deal. This is where the team’s initial offer was discussed. My understanding is that the initial offer/discussion in December of 2015 was for $12.5M per year. Cousins and his agent passed on the offer thinking that if he played well over the final few games and they were able to win the division the price would go much higher. Cousins played great down the stretch, the Skins won the division, and the price went up. According to reports at the time, when the season ended, the Redskins upped their offer to $16M per year/$24M guaranteed. This was an offer that was far short of Cousins’ market value especially after Brock Osweiler signed a deal for $18M per/$37M gtd in Houston. The reporting at the time was that Cousins would have signed a long-term deal at $19M per yr/$44M guaranteed. The Skins never came off the $16Mper/$24M gtd and hence, the first franchise tag was used. This was the moment the team must look back on and cringe. If they had ponied up and accepted the Cousins counter in early 2016, Cousins would currently be the 15th highest-paid QB in the league at $19M per year with still 3 years remaining on the contract. Not budging off the $16M/$24M led to the first tag and from the moment that first tag got slapped on Cousins, the ability to get a long-term deal was going to be more difficult, especially if he played well….and he did.

Numbers sure were low then compared to now, lol.

So the Redskins front office lowballed Cousins, dicked around for two years, and Cousins is at fault for trying to do right for himself, instead of just taking it?

Seriously, what do you think Cousins should have done? Keep in mind what offer the Skins didn't accept, and how the market value for QBs shot upwards recently.
Great post! +1

Here's the thing, if I am not selected before another QB because that other QB was by far a better athlete, I can't be too mad. The fact the team even drafted him and took many shots from the media to do so says enough. The skins liked Kirk and IMO treated him just fine until the KURT comment

I admit I'm building a case with incomplete information. So it's just my two cents and something to talk about during the offseason.

There is a segment of the fan base especially those who feed on the local media who will hate Snyder and Allen no matter what.

Re: Thank You Kirk Cousins Thread

Looking at contracts comparing Cousins to Stafford to Garoppolo, I'm starting to wonder if Cousins took a notable pay cut to be a Viking. Considering at one point this offseason, estimates of 30mil+ per year was speculated, just from the demand for good QBs.

I expected it to be 3 years 90 mil, so my reasoning for ending up with 84 mil is that he took a pay cut so the Vikings can still make moves. Could he have gotten 30 mil? Sure, prob from the Jets. But it stands to reason he can earn more in the future by playing good with the Vikings for the next 3 years.

Re: Thank You Kirk Cousins Thread

Of course he could have gotten more if he played the Jets against the Vikings. He clearly wanted to get to Minnesota.

Did you forget how Dan gave RG3 the keys to the city with all the perks him & his family got other players did not get? Then he meddled when Shanny wanted to move on from RG3 to Kirk. Kind of like your grandma telling you your brother is her favorite grandchild and not you. Snyder poisoned the well for Kirk in the beginning.

Did you forget that RG3 was the 2nd overall pick, and that he (with the Shanahans) led the team to it's first division win in 13 years?

The old qb either had a thin skin, or was in desparate need of outside approval (see his twitter post asking fans to help him decide where to go).

Note, he still hasn't actually signed with Minnesota, and insisted on being wined and dined last night like a diva.
