What could the Skins get for their first round pick? I'm all for trading down and trading Cooley. The more picks, the better!

Re: Dream Draft Pick of the 2010 Draft

Because of what's likely to be a new HC in Shanahan and with Allen as our GM, I could see them working to acquire a few extra picks, notably an extra 1st (or moving for 3 2nd rders like '08) and getting our 3rd rd pick back.

I see our draft looking like this:
(~20th pick)Davis RT, Rutgers
(mid 2nd rd) Brown LT, USC
(mid 2nd rd) Bradford
4th rd: Hudson C, FSU
5th rd: Brown RB, OK U
6th rd:Angerer LB, Iowa
7th rd: Cromartie-Smith FS, UTEP

so u already know that Bradford AND both Charles Brown and Davis will be late first early second round picks cause I think they're all mid 1st rounders

I think its very unlikely all three of those guys go in the 1st round. But your opinion is just as likely as mine. Regardless- you'd be pretty happy if that scenario happened for us right?

Keep in mind a lot is going to change between now and the actual draft. Guys that are 3rd round picks right now could easily become 1st round picks after their pro days.

i really don't care who comes to Washington, as long as they can block somebody. i don't ever want the skins to lose. but if there was ever a time for the line to play as bad as they did, it was right in front of our new G.M. you know what they say, timing is everything

Re: Dream Draft Pick of the 2010 Draft

I like Anthony Davis, but he might be too much of a project. Either way, any O-Line would be nice. I wish we could get a silly deal like the Eagles got a couple years ago when they traded their first pick for the panthers second, and next years 1st. how come we never pull magic like that?

To the person who mentioned that Shanahan likes smaller O-linemen, that is a great point. If Shanahan does end up coming to DC, then it would seem that speedy linemen who can pull and can run a spread offense where the running back does more lateral running would be the best option going forward

True. And the good news is that the o-line needs an overhaul anyway. Maybe Shanny, unlike Vinny, will fix the o-line.

It looks like we will be in the 5-9 range in the draft hope we can trade down or pick the best OL

why trade down? I say trade back into the first round, and trade down in the second. We need more talent on this team.

Re: Dream Draft Pick of the 2010 Draft

What if nobody wants to trade up AND Okung is gone when we pick around the number 5-7 slot? Do you guys still want us to select a OL if we have to reach or would you rather have us select a Franchise QB in Clausen or Bradford?

Keep in mind that the Chiefs, Bucs, Lions, and Rams are the teams that will be picking in front of us.

Re: Dream Draft Pick of the 2010 Draft

There was actually an interesting thread on ES today (I know I couldn't believe it myself) that showed that out of 50 lineman on the last 10 Super Bowl winners only 7 of them were selected in the first round and most of the 7 weren't exactly world beaters. The main point it brought up though was stocking the line after the first round and how it's prudent to draft 2 or 3 guys every draft, which given Bruce Allen's track record and our current situation a no brainer.

Anyway that was probably Vinny's downfall, it wasn't that he wasn't selecting offensive lineman in the first round, it was the fact that he wasn't selecting more then one, if any, after it.

I think now given how the offense has hit rock bottom and Shannahan's development of Cutler as a rookie (88 QB rating) I think it's safe to say that I want Sam Bradford as our first pick, after which I would like to see a splurge on offensive lineman, even if we find a few good ones during free agency.

One of the more interesting questions posed in the thread went as follows:

Quote:
would you rather have:

ryan clady, joe thomas, jake long

or

phillip rivers, ben roethlisburger, aaron rodgers
So long as we properly evaluate and develop a QB we select I'll be all for it. Keep in mind there were a lot of people in Atlanta that wanted the Falcons to draft Glen Dorsey and were extremely disappointed when Matt Ryan got picked. Looking back it was obviously the right move.

It would also seem very possible that Joe Gibbbs and Sam Bradford have met.
