Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?

Funny, during the offseason most of the complaints are "we need continuity, don't fire the coach every couple of years". Then RGIII gives us hope because he's the truth so we automatically think we're bonafide contenders. Next reality hits when we face a team who is clearly superior, and on their home turf where they have an actual advantage. Now we need to blow the entire thing up and start over again because the coaching staff/front office can't get it done. Does anyone remember the team this staff inherited from Vin-Zorn-ity? Come on man, this isn't an overnight fix...it's a process that requires patience. We're a season of development for our young guys and at least an offseason away from playoff contention. Shanny clearly understands this (thus the 5 year plan). For those who think his drafts haven't been productive, I ask you to compare his draft results to the 15 years previous to him.

Didn't he draft paulsen? If so that was a solid pick.

Yes. According to the guide of overreacting, we are currently entering the cycle where win or lose we need to be debating whether to fire our head coach on the spot for not turning this team into an elite competitor by the third year of his regime. Once this average season plays out it will reach a fevered pitch, where it will continue until he gets fired and then the cycle starts over. Wash, rinse, repeat.

/yes I'm on the moron brigade.

Not denying it is better than the past. Christ drafting someone is better than drafting no one. Helu and Royster - jury out i guess. Dont think either will ever make their mark. Dont really care at the moment cus Morris is a beast. Im a U guy so I love Hank - thought he was a steal when we got him - maybe not though. Not a big fan of trading back over and over - id rather have one guy that can contribute than three that cant. Jenkins was injured but his best moments were pre-season number one by far.

If i compare his drafts to years gone by ( outside of RG-3 - even Vinny couldnt have missed on that - rite?) i see alot of quanity and a little quality. In the past we had zero quanity and a little quality. Samuels, lavar, cooley, rak, jansen, etc. We would fill our team with veterans, now we fill them with young guys - but i think alot are misses. There has to be a happy medium between quality and quantity.

I understand what you're saying. My point was more about continuity with the coaching staff/front office (the thread is about whether or not Shanny should be fired, which is what I was trying to disagree with here). Check who the coaches/front office staffs were who drafted Jansen, Lavar, Rak and Cooley. Off the top of my head I believe it's three different coaches...that's my only point.

Fair enough and you cant just take one line from my post and draw sweeping conclusions from it. What about the rest?

I didn't draw any conclusions about the rest of your post, I just took issue with that one point.

"What we need" as far as players go is subjective to the opinion of every fan, whereas you can pretty much say that 6 drops in 7 games is the opposite of "wr's who can't catch." Hence why it was pretty easy to target that line of your post. If he hadn't called you on it, I probably would've. We had 10 drops in one game today, whereas we had 6 (give or take) in our previous 7 games. That's not indicative of wide receivers that can't catch.
