Except for the Saints and the Rams, yeah he had good defenses. The Rams had a solid defense there, but they weren't top notch. And his Saints defenses were terrible, but I won't single him out because they've been terrible for at least 10 consecutive years now.

Experts on here tell me something: What would stop a guy from just quitting the team to sign on wherever they were offered the job? Is it just NFL etiquette? or could the bengals sue him or something.....
I don't think your scenario will ever happen because most teams will grant interviews to a guy if it's a step-up scenario. Guenther coming here would be a lateral move, which they weren't clearly weren't cool with. I think they might also like him as HC-in-waiting once Marv retires.

No you can't just quit your way out of a contract and then sign on with someone else.

So you can't as in it's ethically wrong, or you can't because the new team under NFL rules would not be allowed to hire you, even if you quit your old team

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry

Sure he could quit, but he's under contract through 2017 with the Bengals, so unless they let him out of it, and why would they, he couldn't sign with someone else.

I went with Wade because he is the most proven. I would invite the Bradley or the Wilkes hire as well. Getting rid of Barry early puts us in a good position with several nice coordinator choices. I feel like manusky is the fall back guy, I don't see him as the front runner.

Quitting would be breach of contract. You could quit, purposely breach the contract, not get paid and open yourself up to a lawsuit. But the contract, even if you breach it, gives the rights to your labor to the Bengals and the Bengals only. So nobody can hire you.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry

I'd be happy with Wade, Bradley, or GW. I'd be happiest with Wade.

If Gruden chooses Manusky, I will be highly skeptical and will be looking for him to be right on that hire or else Gruden belongs out on his ass. Head coach is not just about scheme, and coaching. You have to be a CEO capable of hiring the right talent. He's gotta hit on this hire.

Which makes it all the more unfathomable for him to pass up Wade if he can get him. Strongest resume by far.

I completely agree with everything that you said....I hope that Gruden interviews Wade Philips and Dan Synder provides enough incentive for him to sign with the Redskins.

I voted Wade Phillips and it wasn't even close in my mind. I think he may be the best DC in football. Period. End.
