Phillips is a chest pain away from retiring.
I would go with Bradley.

Btw I voted for Grillz because I love him but his Defenses haven't been the same since the NFL cut off his balls.

Pretty sure there was never any serious consideration for him.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry

I voted to "Back up the Bus for Gus", but I'm having 2nd thoughts....

His stats as Def Coord in Seattle......

2009 - 24th in Total D
2010- 27 (drafted Earl Thomas/Cam Chancellor)
2011 - 9th (Richard Sherman)
2012- 4th (Bobby Wagner)

So, with the right talent, I have no concerns that he couldn't do the job.

My concern is that IF he is the selection, this might not be a quick flip next year.
I question if we have close to the same talent level that Seattle did in 2010.

I think sonofbum would have a more immediate impact.

Good coaches have good players. The Browns would've still been the Browns if Gibbs was coaching them. So if a coach has good rankings, he did a good job with the talent he was given. Phillips is old, I'd prefer Bradley or Wilks.

How about we try actually getting some talent on board. There are no miracle workers out there. You cannot turn turds into gold with a scheme. Lol.
But Wade could probably make them the nicest looking turds.....vote for Wade 17

Talent certainly matters. So does scheme and coaching, and no doubt the organization is looking to improve all of the above.

The best way to measure a defensive coordinator's impact is look how he did in his first year, and look how that same defense did in the year before his arrival. That's why Wade is so impressive, he has frequently taken a moribund defense into the top 10 in his first season.

Bradley has improved the defenses he has coached, both the Seahawks and Jags got quite a bit better, but it took longer and some talent. Wade's impact has been more immediate.

Same with Manusky. Wilks we can't judge, never been a coordinator. Norman developed, and he certainly knows what good defenses look like, but can he call one? Can he gameplan? Can he flex his scheme to fit his talent? Maybe but we don't know. He's a risk.

Wade is the best candidate, it's not close.

I agree. I was pissed when we didn't hire Wade and instead hired a guy from the Lions who had the worst losing streak in NFL history....Why? Because of energy? We'll look what happened. Denver wins a Superbowl due primarily to their defense and our offense catches fire but due to our defense we stagnate around 500. Who knows...If we had Wade could we have won one more game both years? I say YES. And that means we blew 2 chances for an actual Super Bowl run....Because we wanted our head coach to have a high energy peer with a crappy resume rather than an old dude with an impressive track record. I say....Get Wade...Stock up on defense and make a superbowl run over the next 3 years!

I'd gladly take Phillips too. But he is getting up there in age. He would be my 3rd choice. But my top 3 are all really close. It's more like a 1a, 1b, and 1c.

Bradley, Wilks, and Phillips, I'd feel good about all 3 of them.

Williams was never a legitimate option. He left here in bad terms and his last 8 or 9 years have not lived up to the talent.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry

Agree that Wade is the best choice by far, but then again - we didn't hire him last time, so either he didn't like us or we didn't like him. We'll see how failure changes things. Gus would seem to be a good second choice, but as mentioned the Seattle defenses may have been good simply due to GM / drafting than his talent. Still, couldn't hurt.

I'm curious on Wilks. Only found one good article on him, where he was highly recommended. If he's legit, wouldn't mind a fresh mind with some passion to develop the team.. He's dealt with change in the Carolina secondary and developed players each year, including this year with two rookies..

Of those associated with us, would HATE Manusky, his resume stinks.
