That may have been some folks hope but even Jay said 8-9 months. This is sad for him, like I said I just hope the dude can walk right much less play

Wow, so it looks like Alex really may be done.

I hope the guy can walk right again much less play football. what a horrible situation.
That really sucks, it was widely assumed everything would go to plan and he'd be back next year. Sounds like we should begin prepping for the worst-case scenario, which is him retiring and our cap being fucked for next year at least.

Alex seems like a stand up guy, I bet he would consider helping the organization somehow on that. He's made millions in his career, I Doubt he is really in need of 41M but then again money talks.

He would, he’s a stand up person and well liked.

As I understand it, there really isn't anything he can do about it. Best thing he can do is wait till June 1st to retire (or we cut him as a Post Jun1st cut).

The NFLPA is not going to let a player give back guaranteed money that would be a ludicrous position for them to allow it in any circumstance. If anything they want all contracts guaranteed.

Well hopefully he decides to wait then. I guess we will see

There's no way Alex would forgo 41 Mil. This exact scenario is why that clause is even in the contract.

Doc Walker is saying there is a rumor that Smith had complications from his surgery.
They aren't saying what.

Alex is another SD guy and a class act. I wish him well.

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft

Alex will be missed no matter what people say, yeah he didn't light it up for us but he was a stand up guy and a leader. This is a big blow to the organization if he can't come back, which it sounds like he won't. U hate to go right to football but now this team 100% needs to draft a QB and maybe even 2 again.

Partial reconstruction can include anything up to and including amputation. He needs things to go right for him. If you're the praying type I'd offer some up.

Zach Miller from Chicago had the same type of infection happen I believe, and they thought he would lose his leg. Luckily he is better now but obv. he can't play on it.

Reports of @Redskins Alex Smith dealing w infection of ankle.can be very serious. Effecting bone healing & soft tissue. IV antibiotics, multiple surgical clean outs, Hardware exchanges, all considerations in infection. In the worst of scenarios, some have had amputations.
