Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

So the best thing/comparison I can think of is this:

Your parents say to you "John, we're sending you to the grocery store to go get our dinner tonight, here's $40 go make dinner." Then an hour before you leave for the store they say "Scratch that John we're giving up $10 to go get dinner tonight, better start looking at the clearance and on sale items." We're going to have to get cheap FA's now, our 'dinner' may not taste as great, but at least we can eat and it could still be good depending on what you get!

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

Wilbon doesn't like the skins and the skins don't like Wilbon. Old news--but **** em again.

Probably the biggest dick thing about this is the timing: the DAY before FA starts. That's just to **** with us and the cowroids.

But given that we knew we pissed people off by dumping the AH and DH money, I am sure we're ready for this. Not that we're Ok with it, but we've got contingencies. Atogwe and others are getting their calls, people are being asked about restructuring, clever contracts are being drawn up for our target FAs, etc.

This will cost us a player or two, no doubt, which is ****ed up. But this part of the CBA was aimed at Danny and Jerry and the trap is being sprung now. Bet Danny and Jerry are getting a little tired of carrying some of the weaker franchises with their money.

(Oh, and yeah: AH was the worst thing EVER. This is penance for signing that douche. Pay the fine and move on.)

Hopefully this will be good news...

The @NFL doesn't say in the statement they released that the #Redskins can't appeal, which I have to think Dan/Bruce/Mike will try & do

Wow, I can't believe this thread has nearly 200 posts already.

I'm sure it's been said, but I'm really miffed that there wasn't any specific rule that was broken. We lose $36M because we violated an "understanding?" Don't all deals have to be approved by the league? So the league approves these deals then drops a bomb on us for it?

THIS is the most ass-chapping part. After some explanation by everyone else in this post, I now see where they came up with the numbers, but like Gmanc said, how did they know what we would have done had we NOT used the uncapped year?!

WTF?!?

Exactly. Not to mention we got for the full $36M for the Hall/Haynesworth restructures, but the Cowboys pay Miles freaking Austin a base salary of $17M and they only get hit with $10M? This whole thing stinks to high heaven.

Snyder is lawyered up. Time to sick the dogs. I'm livid.

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

From Maske:

Officials of the league and the NFL Players Association agreed to the reduction in the salary cap for the two teams in deliberations over the past week, said the person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the topic.

The union agreed to the resolution reluctantly, the person said. Union officials believe that neither team did anything wrong or attempted to circumvent the salary cap. But the union acquiesced to the decision because the league would have lowered the salary cap for all 32 teams if it did not.

Instead, the salary cap space taken from the Redskins and Cowboys was redistributed among other NFL teams. The salary cap for next season was set at $120.6 million per team.

The "officials of the league". Hmmm. Guess they're not skins or cowboys!

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

This is such cut and dry collusion, it's pretty preposterous.

I don't like Roger Goodell one bit.

has anyone actually seen or heard of the salary cap being reduced? i thought it was acutally up from last year? what were they going to reduce the salary cap to if the owners weren't forced into this deal?

I think its only up like a quarter of a million dollars from where it was last season.

And from what I am gathering, the NFLPA has to agree to the salary cap before the start of each season. The OWNERS made the NFLPA agree to this under pain of a reduced salary cap for all teams, reduced by like 3-4 million per team unless they agreed to the terms for the punishment for the 4 teams, the skins, cowboys, and no 1.6 million dollar cuts for the saints and raiders, who apparently adopted the same practices the skins and cowgirls did, but not to such an extent. The other owners and Goodell were the driving force behind this.

This HAS to be illegal. I mean, even though Goodell rules with an iron fist, there are laws that must be followed in business practices. It just stinks of collusion to me.

I hope you're right but with the antitrust exemption the NFL enjoys a lot of rules go out the window.
