I think Richardson and Reed combine to represent the same or similar threat that Hill and Kelce represented in KC, personally. But for the purposes of playing devil's advocate and making the case that Smith will be challenged to replicate his success from last year, I don't think you can wave Hill aside as a non-factor when Smith was targeting someone else.

It's the same phenomenon as Crowder's 2016 season. Reed and Jackson opened up so much space for Crowder to operate in the slot.

I think Richardson and Reed, if healthy, will do pretty much the same thing.

Re: Around the NFL Post Draft News.

Janoris Jenkins has got a problem.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/26/us/de...ome/index.html

CNN)A body discovered Tuesday at a New Jersey home associated with NFL player Janoris Jenkins has been identified as a 25-year-old man who had been living at the residence, prosecutors said.

Roosevelt Rene was a family friend of the residents of the home in Fair Lawn, north of Newark, according to acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo.
The cause and manner of Rene's death has yet to be determined by the Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office, Calo's statement said.

Agree entirely with the non-quoted portion of the post. Nothing to add on that front. Really, given the off-season additions and there anticipated contributions (Payne, Guice, Richardson, Smith) so much of this season is going to be "wait and see."

As to the "if healthy" aspect, to me, that is the single most important factor. Yes, they had lots of issues last year in terms of running the ball and stopping the run, BUT, if not for the injuries, particularly along the two lines, I think they get three wins more and go to the playoffs.

This year, IF HEALTHY, I think we are a 10 win team even if Smith regresses, Payne and Guice play like rookies and Richardson is not the WR hoped for. I believe that our starters are talented enough to win consistently and the Gruden has grown as a coach. However, while I think our depth, particularly along the D-Line, is better, another year of injuries to the O-line and RB corp like last year will prevent us from having a winning season.

To me, and with few exceptions, injuries are the most significant random factor year to year when it comes to any team's win / loss record.

No doubt, Hill is a nightmare to cover.

Here is a nice stat on Reed

the most obvious is....well the most obvious too me:

1. Couldn't stop the run
2. Couldn't run the ball

We can say it anyway you want....but we better be able to fuckin run the ball with Alex Smith.

The defense was gashed against the run mainly due to A) No Nose Tackle and B) Injuries to LB and Dline

The Defense has been fixed....the run the ball offense...yet to be seen. Guice, Oline and Jay's scheme need to show it on the field before I say everything is in place. NOT sold

He's right - the guys we need to be impact players haven't arrived yet. But the first round picks from the last two years - J Allen and D Payne - will have a shot to prove it. Guice will have a shot to prove it. Doctson will have more 50/50 balls coming at him.

We're likely to be better than last season, but to be anything better than 'decent' we need several guys to break through. I still think it's possible, given the talent level of J Allen, D Payne, and D Guice.

And #10 is funny and sad at the same time.
