Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
He's not a Top 10 QB though.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
If you are grading him based on this year, I would agree. However, if you throw out this year, the year J McDaniel inserted himself, he's definitely a top 10 QB.
This was a down year for him I guess: 3522 yards passing, a 60.8% completion percentage, with 24 TDs, and 14 INTs The previous five years he averaged over 4100 yards passing, 67.5% completion percentage, 22 TD, and 11 INT Anyway, top 15 QBs make about $35 million/avg. Everyone wants a top QB, but no one wants to pay for one. That said, I would rather roll with Howell and pick up a cheaper FA QB...but if they are hell bent on going after a top QB, if D Carr makes it to free agency, in my opinion he's the best option because it doesn't require giving up players or picks...assuming you can get a deal done. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
More reason to not go after any of them. I can guarantee that Howell will be much better than Carr. I just have that gut feeling about Howell.

Carr .. sign me up (Id be giddy)
Trade up for one of the 4 highly ranked QBs ... sign me up (Id be giddy) Sign a Brissett and Howell ... sign me up (meh ... maybe next year we will try and solve the QB problem in a QB league ..)

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
We've signed Fromm to a futures contract this week, which right now (assuming TH weeks and CW is cut) makes him our #2 QB. I'm not convinced he's anything more than an emergency back up, but I'm disinclined to pick a QB in the draft unless he's BPA and we're not drafting them at the cost of a pressing need. We're not likely to be able to pick up a top guy at 16, so we'd be trading up (with what?) or reaching as it stands.
I wouldn't trade for Carr, not least because we'd be throwing draft capital away again, but if he makes it to FA I'd be interested. Otherwise I'm picking up a capable FA and starting out with SH pencilled in as #1. Must draft OL, CB AND LB. I rank QB at least 4th importance given the above, if not lower. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I voted other... Stick w/ SH but bring in a vet or drafted player to compete w/ him. Bring back TH for insurance.
It really doesn't matter. W/ Ron running things we're stuck at 7-8 wins tops. He wants a 2-1 run pass ratio. That is comical. If Jay Gruden was coaching this team, or running the offense, we'd be playing this week. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
When the new ownership comes in, if I were them, my first call would be to Ozzie Newsome. How much do you want? I'm giving him 5 years, I'm giving him full control and I'm not taking no for an answer.

He’s still employed by the Ravens

@MikeGarafolo
The #Commanders reached out to former #Colts and #Lions head coach Jim Caldwell about their vacant OC job, sources tell me and @RapSheet, but he told them he’s only pursuing head-coaching opportunities. He’s interviewed for two this cycle. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Caldwell is one of those good OC, bad HC.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
His offenses as a HC
In 9 years he was ranked 18th in the league... And that's with Stafford some and Luck

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
He's been out of the GM game for some time. Not sure if has the skills in this generation of NFL to hop back in and not miss a beat. Probably would be an upgrade no matter though.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I assume he could get out of that. He's not their GM anymore. You just have to get someone at the top that knows what they're doing, that has a track record of success.
I tuned into Ron and Mayhew and had to turn them off after listening to their nonsense. This team is going nowhere w/ those two. And maybe Mayhew could do better if he didn't have Ron sitting there talking about his ground and pound bullshit. But my point is neither is better than Ozzie so do whatever it takes. |
