Dolphins | Team agrees with W. Allen
Sun, 19 Mar 2006 16:08:32 -0800 ESPN.com's John Clayton reports the Miami Dolphins have agreed to a four-year, $12 million deal with free agent CB Will Allen (Giants). Included in the deal are guarantees of $5 million. Broncos | Team made one-year offer to Owens Sun, 19 Mar 2006 16:07:51 -0800 Mike Klis, of the Denver Post, reports the Denver Broncos actually offered WR Terrell Owens a one-year contract before he signed with the Dallas Cowboys. Falcons | Abraham intent on playing in Atlanta
Sun, 19 Mar 2006 19:34:46 -0800 Steve Wyche, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports New York Jets franchise free agent DE John Abraham is intent on playing for the Atlanta Falcons, his agent, Tony Agnone, confirmed Sunday, March 19. The contract agreement he reached Friday, March 17, with Atlanta and his word are his bond. The Jets have thwarted Abraham's relocation by treating the Falcons' trade offer of a second-round draft pick as insufficient. Instead, the Jets have agreed to trade him to the Seattle Seahawks for a first-round draft choice, and that decision has left Abraham "not happy," according to Agnone. In a brief e-mail to the Journal-Constitution, Agnone said there had been no developments in the saga over the weekend. Though things were quiet over the weekend, the Falcons confirmed talks are expected to resume as soon as Monday, March 20. Vikings | Carter says Vikings made a mistake trading Culpepper Sun, 19 Mar 2006 20:56:40 -0800 Harvey Fialkov, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports former Minnesota Vikings WR Cris Carter, now an analyst on HBO's Inside the NFL, believes the Vikings made a drastic mistake in trading QB Daunte Culpepper while he is in his prime. "You don't trade franchise quarterbacks," Carter said during an interview on Sirius NFL radio. "The reason we have jobs is because guys in executive positions make decisions on quarterbacks. Because every week, what do we talk about on Monday?" Dolphins | Allen signing will probably end Law interest |

Seahawks | Jones reworks contract
Mon, 20 Mar 2006 11:51:41 -0800 Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports Seattle Seahawks OLT Walter Jones has reworked his contract with the team so his average per year drops below the $7 million average OLG Steve Hutchinson's offer sheet with the Minnesota Vikings averages. It is believed Jones added another year to his contract with a base salary of $1 million. The extra year will void in the end, but it drops his yearly contract average. The team converted his 2006 roster bonus of $2 million into a signing bonus. looks like the hawks have learned some tricks of their own

NFL | Rice not interested in becoming NFL commissioner; at least for now
Mon, 20 Mar 2006 14:25:59 -0800 The Associated Press reports secretary of state Condoleezza Rice is not applying for the newly opened post of NFL commissioner - not now, anyhow, her spokesman said carefully Monday, March 20. Rice is enjoying being secretary of state "at the moment," spokesman Sean McCormack said. The wiggle-room in his response after NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced he would retire resonated off frequent only half-joking statements by Rice that as a lifelong football fan she aspires to run the league one day. New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft seems to be in Rice's corner for the football post. and he probably turned down because A) Her current job is considered more important, and B) she wouldn't have gotten the job. |

Mon, 20 Mar 2006 15:22:36 -0800 Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports "special master" Stephen Burbank ruled against the NFL Management Council and the Seattle Seahawks Monday, March 20, in their attempt to match the Minnesota Vikings' offer to OLG Steve Hutchinson under altered terms. The ruling means the Seahawks have until midnight Tuesday, March 21, to match the Vikings' offer to Hutchinson, or he will become a Viking. and now its time to pay. |

Seahawks | Must guarantee Hutchinson's contract; Vikings don't
Mon, 20 Mar 2006 17:40:30 -0800 Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports today's ruling on the Steve Hutchinson offer sheet means the Seattle Seahawks have to guarantee the $49 million in Hutchinson's contract if the team matches the offer sheet from the Minnesota Vikings. The Seahawks have until 9 p.m. PST Monday, March 20, to match or lose Hutchinson to the Vikings. If and when Hutchinson becomes a Viking, his deal with Minnesota will not be guaranteed. |

Vikings | Team offers contract to Richardson
Mon, 20 Mar 2006 18:06:05 -0800 Vikings.com reports free agent FB Tony Richardson (Chiefs) said he has a contract offer on the table from the Minnesota Vikings. "One thing I asked was to be able to go home and absorb everything. I'm going to do that through prayer and talking to my family, you now making a decision like this is obviously a big decision, but they are giving me the opportunity to sleep on it and let them know sometime tomorrow," said Richardson. He said he has interest from other teams, but he has not made any other visits. |

NFL | Highlights of Tagliabue's tenure as commissioner
Mon, 20 Mar 2006 19:54:48 -0800 Don Pierson, of the Chicago Tribune, reports NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue's record as commissioner will show steady growth in nearly every area of the league. Television revenue grew from $4.7 million in 1989 to $3.7 billion a year. The values of franchises have grown tenfold, with Forbes magazine valuing three teams over $1 billion. The average player salary has jumped from $317,000 in 1989 to a projected $1.9 million under the new collective bargaining agreement. The league has grown from 28 teams to 32, with the league restructuring to eight divisions. In his 17 seasons as commissioner, there have been 11 different teams to win a Super Bowl. Starting in 2005, the league adopted the Olympic testosterone-testing standard to strengthen their policy on illegal drug-testing, which includes steroids. |
