Re: 2012 Draft-QB Prospects (Part III)

Matt Barkley will announce today if he's turning pro and entering the 2012 NFL draft or if he's staying at USC to play out his collegiate eligibility.

Most of the time, I don't read back threads. I only focus on the current page. But since I didn't see anything pertaining to Barkley's eventual decision, I thought I'd post it. I didn't know that someone had beaten me to it.

Hypothetically speaking, let's say Barkley, Griffin III, and Jones all decides to stay. I realize you still have other QBs like Tannehill and Weeden, but do you draft a QB this season just to be drafting one? Or, do you will and deal your draft picks this year in hopes of landing a high draft pick next year - where you could possibly be a shoe in for someone like Griffin or Barkley?

No. I don't think you wait another year

I think you intelligently (without too much reaching) draft a QB as high as you can this year. Then perhaps do so again next year depending on results.

I would love to wait to get someone next year like Barkley or RG3 since I think they are better players than anyone that would be below them in the draft this year that we could get. HOWEVER, you can't sit back another year and wait to get a QB next year. It would suppress the growth of the team significantly for another year and if we did well next year anyhow we would have a lower first round pick and half to give up A LOT to trade into the top 5 to draft one of those two.

Remember, by staying, Barkley could be in the same place Luck will be this year. #1, and that will cost a boat load to trade up for, so you really aren't helping yourself by playing the waiting game in that scenario.

Which sucks. We would have a much better shot at drafting either one this year, and give up a lot less too I would assume than by waiting and trading up next year. I can't believe he is going to stay after his two stud linemen said already they were going to declare.

I know this sounds kind of stupid, but why would he annouce that he will be annoucing it today. I would lean towards an annoucement that he is staying and he is probably going to annouce it in front of a bunch of students, so he can look like a hero. I hope I am wrong, plus I am using reverse psychology on myself.

Not stupid at all, I think he stays, he is having the presser at USC, why would he say he is leaving in front of the student body? Just to actually here the boo's, nah.

Well he's having the presser in the same place that Sanchez and Bush said they would go pro

Ha! Well he'll probably stay. I think Landry declares though. I have nothing but my own guessing to base that on though. Every week it seems I hear something different on RG III

Re: 2012 Draft-QB Prospects (Part III)

We need Barkley and RG3 to come out. And even then chances are we're going to have to trade up to get the guy we want. Then again I can't help but wonder if Shanahan sees someone like Nick Folles as the Ryan Kerrigan of QB's and instead of trading up he trades back to not only get his QB but extra picks.

As someone said, the team needs to get the QB that is at the top of their draft board.
