Re: Redskins fire GM Scot McCloughan

So it seems that the de facto GMs are going to be Doug Williams and Jay Gruden.

If the current setup works, roll with it. Sounds like Campbell will likely be the main personnel guy anyway, basically replacing McC's main duties. He was never a true GM anyway.

Campbell sounds like he has really developed into a quality personnel guy...I rather promote him to GM than lose him to someone else.

Probably not a good idea to hire someone right now. That person would have to fit in with the culture and play along with Bruce. Not going to happen. The incumbents know the game. Scot didn't and that's why he's gone.

My personal opinion is that there is no "specific" GM being hired because typically, the GM that is hired picks his own head coach, etc..

Potentially we could be in Jay Gruden's last two years, maybe less if something catastrophic happens (Think of Jeff Fisher's "extension"). If Gruden gets fired or walks after 2018 season, my guess is they hire a GM who then picks the HC, etc, etc.

If it goes well like Matty said, you roll with it if everything is working

Re: Redskins fire GM Scot McCloughan

pretty classy of Scot ....wish him well

Exclusive Interview: Former Redskins GM Scot McCloughan « CBS DC

McCloughan, who was fired by the Redskins in early March, had nothing but kind things to say about his former employer.

“This is a great, classic organization that has a lot of tradition in the past and hopefully they’ll get back to what they did in the past,” he said. “But I just want to say to the fans: It’s awesome. It’s a great organization.”

hmmm, think maybe the "media" might have made this a bigger deal than what it really was?

Re: Redskins fire GM Scot McCloughan

This is really good thing for Redskins organization - Scot has publicly announced that the divorce was mutual and he has no grudge against Redskins office. And not to mention what skinsfaninok just posted, Scot himself who is well regarded as talented scout evaluator, believes Jay has good scouting talents. Even though I think it would be better had if we keep Scot with the organization, I am not too concerned about the front office anymore..

Of course, there's still a dark cloud over the office regarding Cousins situation. If they eventually sign Cousins to long term, then this whole negative media hype about Redskins in this off season will seem ridiculous.

Good for Scot for taking the high road. It wouldn't have been a good look for him if he blasted the Skins, deserved or not. And just maybe things aren't as bad as they seem.

Re: Redskins fire GM Scot McCloughan

Scot chose to focus on the professional reasons for the mutual departure. For Scot, if he was going to be the public face of the personnel side, but not actually have the final say on things like the QB, then that wouldn't work for me either. I can't stand up there and take the credit or blame if I don't get to make the most important decisions.

And for Bruce, he didn't want to cede the power. Ultimately he's team president and the buck stops with him. I'm not sure I'd want to cede that power either on important decisions like QB.

Scot left the smear campaign out of his comments. Bravo to him for that.

If Bruce is going to keep the decision making power on issues like the long term QB contract, he better be ready to take the heat if things don't work out. It sounds like he knows he needs people around him he can trust on talent evaluation. Luckily I think he has it in Campbell, Santos, and Gruden.

But for God's sakes he better be listening to them on Kirk and be ready to give him a strong offer on July 14. Because if this QB gets away, then Bruce deserves the axe from Snyder.

I've said it all along, Jay and Bruce have a good plan going. Scot was definitely a part of that puzzle but sometimes things don't work out.

I think McC is a really good dude who struggles with demons...but everytime you hear this guy speak you become more of a fan. I really hope the best for this guy.

I think it was SS who said Gruden status in the org was really rising...Scot had some good things to say about him as a talent evaluator.
