What is Andrew Luck Worth?

Jay Glazer, Peter King, and Charley Casserly have all heard the same report that Andrew Luck is worth at least 3 first round picks.

Would you trade 3 first rounders for 'the most sure thing at QB since Peyton Manning'?

Remember just because they ask for three first rounders doesn't mean:
A) it has to be 3 firsts, it could be the value of 3 firsts
B) it has to be 3 consecutive years of giving up a first rounder

Re: What is Andrew Luck Worth?

The Jay Cutler price would be a pretty expensive price for Luck. Two first rounders, a third rounder, and an established NFL starting quarterback. I might pay that much to get Andrew Luck. But I would not pay anymore.

The most I would give up for the first overall pick is this year's first round pick, this year's third round pick, next year's first round pick, and a starter on our current roster. That's the Eli Manning price.

Pull the trigger, never up never in. With Brees and Rodgers in this conference it will take an elite QB and tremendous drafting in the deep rounds.

But does anybody think Indy will entertain offers? I don't. I think the point is moot, Luck will be a Colt.

No player is worth three first rounders.

I agree, especially a player who has never taken a snap in pro football.

I don't think people are considering the risk with investing so much in one player. I know he's been hyped up to be a once in a generation type of player. He's going to have a lot of pressure on him to produce right away which I think he can under the right circumstances. I don't think we have the players on this team right now for him to be successful right away. The way I look at it, this team needs at least two more good drafts to be a consistent winner; not just one player. Giving up three first rounders will set us back for years even if Luck turns out to be who many believe he will be. We all know we need franchise guy to be a consistent winner. You also need quality guys around him and depth. Mortgaging away the next three drafts is not smart move when you can draft a guy and develop him. Now there are some trades that we should consider, but three first rounders is not one of them.

I totally agree. I just dont think the Skins can afford to give up so much for 1 unproven player. The biggest problem with the Skins is depth and thats built through the draft.

Not if the Colts beat the Jags and the Rams lose to the 49ers.

Re: What is Andrew Luck Worth?

I'd def do it. The manning deal was worth that much (two 1st a second, a third, and a fifth) . The giants had a few shakey seasons at first, but over time turned into a consistantly respectable team. Even in years they didnt make they playoffs I still think they were a good team that had the potential to win any given game. Thats what having a franchise qb does to a team. Plus the won a super bowl.

Also didn't cutler go for two 1sts and a third? look at how he improved the bears. And he was older and got more money than luck will.

Both good points.

The bigger issue, re: Cutler, is that the Bears essentially lost the ability to improve their team via the draft as a result of this trade, and didn't really even improve at the QB position (over Orton) until this season. So it was really an awful trade for the Bears. Cutler's age was a big deal in making the trade because it is NOW that the trade will start to pay off for the Bears. You don't make these huge trades for young quarterbacks in hopes of making the playoffs next year or even for the current head coach. You do it to make the franchise better down the road if you don't like any of the other college prospects.

If we traded three first round picks for Luck, it would make everyone who ever used the word "rebuilding" on the topic this team look dumb. We'd have no choice but to sign big money free agents to give Luck a competitive team. But enough good personnel decisions, and you can get yourself out of any mess, with or without Andrew Luck.

Re: What is Andrew Luck Worth?

I personally don't think it's worth it.

It's like the preparation behind bringing a baby home for the first time. You don't just come home from the delivery room and have the baby sleep on the couch. We need a lot of competitively supporting members before we can add someone like Luck. Bringing in Luck under our current situation would just stunt his NFL development.

At our current draft position and lack of team depth, we'd lose way too much player value moving up to get Luck.
