Re: Gameday Thread: Browns vs. Redskins

What's so frustrating about the competition committee is it has three defensive coaches, Lewis, Tomlin and Fisher. Why are they pushing rules for the offense? All the defensive holding and illegal contacts calls are just out of control.

Love this: "Browns vs. Redskins highlights" on NFL.com shows not a single redskins offensive snap.

Watch Cleveland Browns vs. Washington Redskins [08/18/2014] - NFL.com

Ridiculous.

I love all the Browns QB talk today. I saw a post from NFL AM asking if Manziel is ready to be the starter, um did you see the game? How is this a serious question?

Re: Gameday Thread: Browns vs. Redskins

The holding was supposed to go both ways - receivers are supposed to be scrutinized as much as DB's for pushing off and their own holding. I haven't watched a whole lot of preseason, but it sounds like it's the DB's being flagged significantly more than the WR's.

To me it seems like the lowering of the head for RB's penalty from not too long ago. They flagged it in preseason and I don't know that I've seen it flagged since... even thought we saw it last night.

So I doubt we're going to see this in the regular season but who knows.

Oh I think we'll see it, just when it's more obvious. There's no way they can keep tossing 20 flags a game. In the regular season you have to let them play.

they showed a graphic on the screen last night showing preseason penalties vs regular season penalties over the past 10 years . . . pretty consistent each year that in the regular season there was an average of 1 to 1.5 less penalties calle per game . . . last year there were approx 13.5 called per game in the preseason and 12.5 called per game in the regular season . . . and for the last 10 years the average has gone up from approx 10 per game in the preseason to 13.5, then to almost 19 this year . . . somethings got to give or this is going to be hard to watch

Re: Gameday Thread: Browns vs. Redskins

Yeah and we'll probably only see it against the DB's

I don't know how much they can keep pushing this... maybe people will never stop watching, but the advantage to the offense is getting old. I know I'm not the only one that feels that way.

Re: Gameday Thread: Browns vs. Redskins

After watching the Browns game, I am concerned that RGIII might never "get it" and learn to protect himself on the run. As of today, unless this behavior of his changes, I expect him to be injured again this season while running and failing to get out of bounds or to slide in time to avoid a hit.

I'm sure that Robert understands the need to fix this problem on an intellectual level. But I suspect that what he does now is deeply ingrained in him and it has only become a behavioral problem now that he is in the NFL where he is competing against better athletes than he faced in college. Nevertheless, his behavior needs to change immediately if there is to be any hope of his playing a full season.

The Redskins coaching staff has failed to communicate to Robert the importance of protecting himself. Verbal communication hasn't worked. So now I think the staff needs to address this problem by replacing his current behavior with another learned behavior. To be specific, I think they should create special drills for him to practice exactly when to get out of bounds and when and how to slide. They should make him practice this over and over and correct him whenever he fails to adequately protect himself or slide properly during a drill. This needs to be a high priority and the staff needs to keep doing these drills until his behavior changes.

I'm serious about this. It is a major issue for Robert, this team, and the franchise. The coaching staff must teach him through repetition that the time for him to get out of bounds or slide is sooner than he is currently doing it.

breaking a bad habit is about dedication, focus and repetition . . . i think the coaching staff needs to take 20 minutes per practice and have defenders barrel down on him from different angles at full speed to get him to slide or get our of bounce, first on time, second properly . . .

tbh im worried more about the route Haden undercut. Today its the slide factor. He scrambles.. I keep saying that. he likes just going, lets let him do what he does. Emphasis it a little more in practice but lets not take away from his actual throwing and desicison making drills. We have Kirk backing him up.. Hes more accurate than the long list of scramblers behind him and that's why were sad he wont slide I know.

I'm completely with you. As simple as the point is, RGIII just doesn't get it.

Gruden needs to take stringent measures. How 'bout fining Griff $25,000 for every time he takes a hit rather than getting down?

Not to defend RG3, but having the right side (Chester/Polumbus) collapse on many plays, did not help the whole situation.
