Quite a bit of both Biden's and Harris's support came from people like me who were voting against Trump (which likely made up about 30% of her support) Our votes were very reluctant for her as it was and by picking another progressive (and a populist one at that) it was essentially a slap in the face to independents and the Never Trump/GOP conservatives that made up that group. She basically told us to go pound sand and she doesn't need our votes. In my office alone 2 that would have voted for her if she picked Kelley (especially Kelley), Shapiro or any moderate told me they are now going to vote for Trump and she lost my vote as well (I will sit out). As you posted she's making a move thinking all she needs is her base. She read the audience wrong the anti-Trump vote was more important than her base support and now she will likely lose. Lets see what the polls say in 2 weeks.

I do not understand how somebody could go from voting for Kamala Harris and then she makes a VP pick that is in line with her views and you switch to Trump. Sitting out I understand, switching to Trump - no because they're two diametrically opposed opponents. In short I don't believe you're too colleagues we're going to vote for Kamala they were probably just saying that but we're going to vote for Trump no matter what. Of course I don't understand how anyone is voting for Trump or Harris at this point so I'm just stuck in the middle with no one to vote for or to represent me.

I think they were hoping (praying) she wouldn't go full bore Progressive if she won, but by picking Walz she is demonstrating she is going to go full bore progressive which for those two (and me) killed our long shot hopes. (Plus for one of them he really liked Kelley - he is our Senator).

I couldn't even start to understand the mindset of someone whose vote is so fluid to go back and forth between polar opposite candidates based on the VP pick. If I knew someone like that personally I'd call BS to their face.

What is interesting and yes it has only been primaries but democrats have opted to vote out progressives in favor of more moderate candidates over the last few weeks, yet she doubled down on a progressive over a moderate. I can't imagine democrats not voting for her against Trump because of that but we will see, that rejection of progressive policies is not exclusive to moderate democrats.

I think this country needs a midwestern Dad in the White House to help cleanse the Trump timeline

She's moved on him like a bitch

In new Marist poll, Harris makes astronomical move on Trump

In a new poll released Tuesday night, Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, has taken an enormous lead on former president Donald Trump among independent voters.

Harris is up nine points with that group (53%-44%) after being down 14 points with them when she launched her campaign just two weeks ago.

Your first sentence may have been the best comment I have read here since I joined. Well played MTK. And of course you bring very good news.

As for the VP nobody votes for the VP, they can't win an election. But they sure can pull a candidate down and lose an election. We may be seeing that very thing with the Trump/Vance ticket.

Question , we stop taxing "gratuities then how many CEO's will start "getting gratuities" as pay from their BOD?. Sorry but not in favor of it, just too much room for illegal stuff.

Re: Presidential Race 2024

Tips are income therefore they should be taxed. Pretty simple if you ask me.

I agree but I ask what will Boss's due to control the tips . Many pool the tips and divvy it up later some weekly, some monthly, some keep them. If they aren't tax they won't be reported. I know we are thinking "tips" , like the pizza guy but what about the big stuff? Ever watch "Below Deck"? these guys get 1200 to 2000 gratuities per charter(cash) they can finish with about 20 grand by the end of a Charter season. Will Bonus's be considerd "gratuities"? Sorry I don't like the idea.

I see the Below Deck tip as no different than the server tip. If it's reported then you have to pay taxes. If it is in cash well I got no problem with the wink wink method of not reporting. I was after all a bartender in the 80's when all the tips were cash and none were reported.
