Saunders also made another very interesting comment. He said that he told his wife that this will be the last move. So at the very least it looks like he will be here for the length of his contract.

I repeat myself like many posts.....Gibbs has always had future or prior HEAD coaches working for him. It all started with Hannifan in the early 80s......the true genius behind the hogs.(if you are reading this Bugel) HI JOE!!! I LOVE YOU.

Re: Al Saunders Press Conference

I didn't hear any mention of Saunders bringing coaches here with him from KC. is it possible that since Gibbs and Saunders are from the same coaching tree that they understand and can teach this offense with the current assistant coaches?

Hmm...with all of your comments, especially the one about Saunders telling his wife that this would be the last move, I got a thought into my head. Innovation is a huge part of the NFL, and with that being said, do you think that there could end up being two head coaches some time in the future (i.e. Gregg Williams- Head Coach of Defense, Al Saunders- Head Coach of Offense). I think this would be a very interesting concept and it could make a very powerful team. Who knows, something like that could revolutionize the NFL...

thats interesting. i mean its almost set up like that now. we have an offense coach who will likely call the plays in saunders. williams we know handles defense. neither wants to leave the area. i said this in another thread but being that saunders likely could have coached elsewhere, maybe he's willing to take "less" money to just be OC. that is an interesting thought and snyder certainly has the dough.

Well in a sense, but if you look at the '85 Bears...They had Ditka and Buddy Ryan. The titles really didn't suggest it, but they were pretty much run like they two head coaches. But ultimately, there needs to one head where the direction, game planning and key personnel issues flow from. One person will always shoulder the responsibilty and be accountable for the success or failure of the team, however.

Heck, it's pretty much set up now where we have, potientially, three head coaches! As long as everybody is on the same page - and I have no doubts they will be - this is going to be great for us! I'll have to watch the presser when I get home. Interesting interpretation concerning Patrick Ramsey.

Saunders is a quality guy, I was very impressed with his introductory press conference. He's going to be a great fit with this team and organization.

Re: Al Saunders Press Conference

And it just makes me more impressed with Gibbs--he saw what the team needed, and went and got his man (and props to Danny for making sure the price was right!). Again and again, we see the press (and some of us, at times ) say that Gibbs doesn't know what's going on in one thing or another--and then Gibbs comes out and proves that he's well aware of the situation, and he's already hard at work to fix things. Let the media say what they want--the guy knows how to win, and how to build a quality organization from top to bottom.

Saunders will fit right in. And I am VERY excited about seeing what he can do for us. Man, it's a good time to be a skins fan!

Re: Al Saunders Press Conference

While I'm not ready to admit super bowl like a lot of commentators are already doing, I am extremely pumped by this signing.

I can hardly wait to see what a top 10 offense paired with a top 10 defense can do.

Re: Al Saunders Press Conference

Saunders seems to have sense of humor:

George Micheal: How does a guy go from London, England to being a football coach?

Al Saunders: We came on a boat.

When he was asked about the Personel on the team he talked about Brunell have his best year and a first round draft pick with a lot of tools, no mention of Ramsey at all. I think that is very telling. I am really looking forward to March first to see who we add to this team.

Very telling indeed, here's something along those lines from the WP:

Quote:
Gibbs called quarterbacks Mark Brunell and Jason Campbell to inform them of Saunders's hiring but said he has not talked to Patrick Ramsey, who almost certainly will be traded or released. Saunders referred to both Brunell and Campbell when quickly discussing offensive personnel yesterday, but did not mention Ramsey, a former first-round pick.

Re: Al Saunders Press Conference

I'm getting a weird vibe that Gregg Williams may not be Gibbs' successor after he re-retires. Title for Saunders is ASSOCIATE coach - offense. Title for Williams is ASSISTANT coach - defense. Being an associate is being equal to Gibbs, while being an assistant is under Gibbs. Maybe I'm reading into it too much.......
