I think we have made good moves that suit our needs but I am still concerned about which players we are going to have to release to be under the cap. The most important thing is resigning the players on last year's team that made a big impact.

Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?

I think that even if the players we've gotten play like they have in the past (with no improvement), we've upgraded the team. If they get better, the team will be much improved!

Out of all the pickups, I think RE is the most intrigueing. He seems to be a very good football player (not WR, KR, RB, QB), but a football player. It think its good to have guys (Sean Taylor, Mike Sellers, Cooley) like that on the team. I love his versatility.

I think that Lloyd will be a very good pickup. He's only 6', but man can he leap! I definitely don't mind giving up a 3rd and a 4th for him, either.

Archuleta is one that I'm kind of mixed on. I don't really know much about him, but never really thought that Ryan Clark was the solution at safety anyway. 25 always seemed like a good guy, and I always hate to see those kind of guys go, but if AA comes through and really helps the team, I doubt any of us will be saying, 'man, i wish ryan clark was out there playing - he was always such a nice guy'.

One of my biggest concerns at this point is OL depth. We need some.

A trade or two and we will not have any picks in the draft to needed money!

I'm sure that the rookie salary cap pool is not an afterthought here.

What do we need to save for our rookie salary cap pool? What, $5 and a happy meal?

I think the players we have could perfom better if there was some consistency around them. If they could learn how to play with each other rather than having to learn how to play with a new player every year we might be able to develop consistent success rather than intermitent success.

We have made good moves but they shouldn't be in lieu of keeping our core players.

turnover happens every year. clark was offered a contract, but he wants to start. the core players are all coming back or have offers, and over 40 people from the 2005 team should return.

I like the signings of Archuleta and Fauria. However, I'm not sure how I feel about Randle El and Lloyd. I feel like we overpaid for both. I also don't like how we had to give up 2 draft picks for Lloyd. I also doubt we'll be able to keep three wideouts happy that they are getting enough balls thrown their way.

But, ultimately, Gibbs knows what he is doing. Also, after seeing how we've managed to evade cap hell for all these years, I'll give the Redskins front office the benefit of the doubt that we can stay out of cap hell.

i feel you there. ive heard that both lloyd AND randle el both get pissy when they dont get all the balls thrown their way. but as i said before, if theres ANY coach that can nip that in the bud, its gibbs and co.

I'll wait and see. I think we overpaid for Randel El even though I think he's a great talent. I thought Patten could have been a great #3 option given the chance and we spent $ on him 1 year ago. Personally, i think we could have signed 1 wr and spent the $ elsewhere. But, I'll trust Gibbs on these and wait on the results.

I too initially thought we overpaid for Randel El, and that may still be the case. But after reading through a few posts, especially Guy's, you have to consider that the market has gone up since the new CBA agreement.

A year ago for the same dollars probably wouldn't have made sense, but I think we gave him what he was going to end up getting somewhere else, just packaged differently.

Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?

I like all the moves so far and hope we complete the deal with Carter. If we sign Jeff Mitchell for depth, then the only thing we haven't addressed is a quality 3rd corner (IMHO, and in an ideal world, our 3rd corner is good enough to be the No.2 corner simply b/c of the number of teams that are 3 deep at WR nowadays).

One thing to notice about the defensive guys we are pursuing (Carter, Archuletta), each is extremely versatile. Archuletta was a LB in college and, coming out, they were talking about playing him in a variety of positions, including TE. Carter is a DE/OLB tweener. I am betting that GW is planning on REALLY mixing it up next year if he can get both these guys.

W/ the versatile weapons they are giving Saunders on offense (Cooley, Sellers, R-El) and Williams on defense, I predict that opposing teams are gonna get slammed coming and going, and, just when they think they got it figured out, Saunders and GW will change it up on them.

How long before opening day?
