Re: Tagliabue To Retire in July
If anyone thinks he wasn't good, I present to you Gary Bettman, Bud Selig, and David Stern. Nuff said.

Re: Tagliabue To Retire in July
I thought he was a great commisionner. it's too bad he's retiring, i just hope his replacement will do as good of a job as he did.

Re: Tagliabue To Retire in July
I do not now seek, nor will I accept from this Warpath body the nomination for Commisioner of the National Football League.

Re: Tagliabue To Retire in July
I heard Fred Smoot was a leading candidate. He wasn't taken seriously until he invited some of the voters to his campaign kick off boat party. Now he is the favorite...

The Chosen One?
By Charles Robinson, Yahoo! Sports March 20, 2006 More Tagliabue – What will be his legacy? If the NFL were run like the mafia, with an organizational chart that flowed south – from the boss to the fists that enforce his rule – we would already know the name of Paul Tagliabue's successor. Meet Roger Goodell – the Frank Nitti to Tagliabue's Al Capone. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_yl...yhoo&type=lgns

Re: Tagliabue To Retire in July
I just read a rumour circulating in the New York Daily News that Bill Clinton is being considered for Tags' job.

If there's someone who's actually been working inside and knows the players (owners, local govermental concerns of each fiefdom, understands the current cba and revenue streams etc) i'd prefer them over someone so outside the loop. If someone wants to bring up the tags was an outsider arguement, he wasn't. he worked as a lawyer for the league for quite a while, and when he took over the league wasn't worth billions and the pressure wasn't nearly as great. its a much higher profile job then it was all those years ago. |

Re: Tagliabue To Retire in July
Is Condoleezza Rice really being considered for the job?
...please tell me that's a joke.

Re: Tagliabue To Retire in July
Tags has indefinitely postponed his retirement. No progress is being made on finding a replacement apparently

He'd screw it up beyond belief. He'd allow linemen to use a "depends on what your definition of holding is..." when flagged. Weaker teams would get to start out with an entitlement of points to even out the competition. Let's not forget though, he WOULD be "the first black Commisioner", so he WOULD make sure there was no racism in the league. I can't think of a candidate who would be as good as Tags...but it WOULD be interesting to see John Madden get a year term. Actually it would be hilarious, but not so good for the league most likely. Joe Gibbs would be good someday, he's bring integrity to the job more than anyone else. |
