Re: Uniform Numbers

I've got no problem with the NFL changing it's policy on the numbering system. What I do have a problem with is the NFL changing it's policy because golden-boy Bush whined about it. Plenty of players have requested different numbers (Edgerrin James requested #5 I believe three seperate occasions and was denied). How come the system is perfectly fine until Bush complains?

It could have to do with the fact that Bush has promised to donate something like 25% of his take from jerseys sales to Katrina relief if he gets #5. But even that's sort of crappy, because he very well could have donated money from the sales of whatever number he takes.

Ya in my opinion they should have waited a year or so and then announced it the week after the super bowl, instead of making it seem like they did it for Bush. It could be pretty cool though to see some of the numbers incoming players and current players come up with.

ESPN reports the NFL has decided to change their policy regarding uniform numbers. No details of the agreement have been disclosed.

Looks like Bush might get his wish. Not sure if this will effect any skins. Im interested to see the details when released. I hope Reggie Bush is garbage in the NFL. What do u guys think
Can you post the link to that story? Thanks

He could still end up doing that if he has to wear number 25, or whatever.

It could just be a small clause to allow running backs to use single digit numbers kind of like what they had to do for wide receivers.

On a side note, think about all of the running backs that will want to switch.

Re: Uniform Numbers

it might only be allowing single digits for RBs instead of just QBs and kickers... in the 60s RBs wore #5.

Re: Uniform Numbers

If this is true -- and I really hope it's not -- I could see this change coming. It was only a matter of time.

It really started with Keyshawn Johnson getting #19. Before that WRs always had numbers in the 80s. Then Larry Fitzgerald got #11, so did Roy Williams of the Lions ... and on and on it will continue.

I don't like this one bit.

Re: Uniform Numbers

I'm waiting for lineman to want to switch their numbers to single or triple digits.

Re: Uniform Numbers

This is a bad move if they give in to Reggie Bush, especially considering how they turned down Edge James who wanted the SAME NUMBER.

If they open the door for one player, it should be opened for everyone.

They didn't let Heath Shuler have #21 in the NFL....and countless other players. Personally, I think anyone SHOULD be able to get any number they want, but I do understand the positional breakdown for jersey numbers that is used.

At least #33 is retired for the Skins, we won't have to worry about a rookie QB disgracing the number.

I'd like to see linemen get their weight as their jersey number. It can be adjusted weekly, so we know who's working out and who's working the buffet line.
