Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??

At least he would give Salva'a some one to click with.

On a serious note, I really hope this isn't true because it just seems like the type of signing we would have made six or seven years ago. I hear the name "Deion" whispering in the wind when I read that we are possibly in talks with an old veteran who won't have any long term impact.

Same thing goes here, I think. We'll start off with Clemons and Holdman competing for the job. If they stink, Rocky will get in there a lot. But I don't see GW signing Seau unless he thinks it's a major upgrade over what he has. It's not what we have at the position NOW that matters. It's what GW thinks we're GOING to have come midseason. It's Rocky's spot, it's just GW is going to take some time to hand it to Rocky. And Seau is not going to get signed just to be another body along the line.

This coaching staff likes to promote players from within when possible. They're going to let the current LBs battle it out until Rocky takes over.
Just to elaborate on your point about GW bringing his rookies along slowly, Rogers also had injury problems in the preseason which undoubtedly slowed his development and hindered the trust factor.

If Rocky stays injury free I can see him working his way into the lineup much quicker than Rogers did.

Right, because wasn't Taylor starting by the 3rd or 4th game?

Thats exactly what I was thinking prior to reading your response. Can we get some freaken depth at O line. Has anyone seem any noteable cuts for some veteran OL help.

I think the only thing we need to be looking at with our remaining allowance would be someone to shure up this line in case of an injury. We saw what happened last year when one of our starters went down. The running game was affected dramatically and at times we seemed to be one-dementional.

Lets see what becomes available here.

Let's not forget about McCune. He is in his 2nd year and could emerge. The only positive about signing Seau is his leadership qualities. He could be a very energizing influence in the locker room. But maybe not worth the price tag.

Speaking of aging LBer's, let's pause for a moment and reflect upon the stellar career of Monte Coleman.... okay! Now about "Say-ow": We don't require his services. having said that I'm not going to be upset if we sign him. We've done worse, way worse.

Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??

it'd be a good move. right now we have no one that's gauranteed to be all that great, though either clemons and mcintosh can HOPEFULLY get it done.

as a reserve he could be like ray brown for our LB corp.

Deion, Bruce, Carrier et al were at the end of their careers but we paid em big. Just by the timing of this rumor its unlikely seau will get much if anything beyoned the minimum.
btw, Deion actually played above avg. here just not up to his past. If Seau can play that well, start an entire 16 game season, for vet. min. $, he would be a bargain. I don't think he's every down material at all, but he may be tough against the run. If GW thinks we need the depth, sign him cheap.

Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??

I'd be fine with the signing. He's been a great player, he has a ton of experience that will help with the development of our young players, he's unselfish, a team player like Gibbs wants and he'd have a chance to close out his career with a Super Bowl win with the Skins.

As long as he's not too expensive, I don't see any reason NOT to sign him.

Quality depth is never a bad thing.

Its totaly different than the signings we did 6 or so years ago. Back then we would bring in these Vets and give them hugh 3 to 5 year contracts. Thats what we need to avoid doing again. If Gibbs and Company think they could bring him in for 1 yr small contract and they could get a value from him than I trust what they think. It would kind of be what we did with Ray Brown last year he was a mentor and when we need him he did his job well for us.

Is he a free agent? If he would go for vet minimum, it makes me wonder why the dolphins wouldn't pick him up themselves if he was even worth that...

Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??

I would not like the signing as it would just remind me of the 2000 signings. I know it would be a little different circumstancially, but I think its best if we let the guys develop. I think we have a good enough defense where if they make some mental mistakes, it wont KILL the team. Correct me if I'm wrong, but dosent Seau play inside linebacker?
