Re: Thrash, Espy or Farris

i take thrash over patten but i take them both over farris and espy. Farris is the man. He does well and catches the ball when it hits his hands(yes it went through his hands last week). He looked good from my stand point yesterday and espy looked like sheeeeeeet. Farris has been playing on special teams and did better than espy did. Farris isn't as fast as espy though which is obviously important at this position. JIMMY JIMMY JIMMMY>

I like Jimmy too......but didn't he get a shot last season after having a quite impressive pre season. What did he do for us when we called upon him in the season when we had no recievers? I'm still trying to figure it out so someone let me know.

Exactly. After Patten and Thrash went down last year, it was Taylor Jacobs and Jimmy Farris who replaced them.

According to player stats at NFL.com, Jimmy Farris caught 1 pass for 18 yards, while Jacobs, who had much more playing time, caught 11 passes for 100 yards.

To me, Jimmy Farris, who has been in the league longer than Jacobs, doesn't deserve to be in a Redskin uniform any more than Taylor Jacobs did. He is training camp fodder and will never be anything more.

Re: Thrash, Espy or Farris

thrash is the total package of a team player. he is a reliable possesion reciever willing to go over the middle and is an excellent ST player. espy makes the practice squad and Farris is the odd man out probably.

Re: Thrash, Espy or Farris

Thrash is lucky that he is insured with his special teams play of which I noticed even in camp that Farris is practicing and playing to fit that role.
Farris I believe would be a nice role like thrash but he will be a victim of our depth b/c he cant be put on the practice squad.
Espy, I lost all respect for last night. Hes out for sure to Practice Squad

What is with Patten??? Why is he holding back the effort??? He could have laid out to get a couple of balls last nite. WE have him signed till the end of the season right???

I realize I'm in the minority here, but I really think Patten is on his way out.

I agree with you. I think espy will be on the practice squad and farris will make the roster.

Farris did well last year but wasn't clutch in the playoffs. I go with thrash

Re: Thrash, Espy or Farris

dgack-

I think it's mostly a function of necessity. Espy knows he is on the bubble, he absolutely needed a big game, and he dropped some passes.

It disturbs me that Patten can't catch the ball, but he's a veteran and Joe Gibbs prefers a veteran guy. He's also proven that he can play on the NFL level; Espy has not.

Seriously though, I'm extremely pleased with our depth at WR regardless of what happens. Patten and Thrash could both be #3 on some teams. I think the Skins are one of the strongest receiving teams in the nation.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying, I guess I think of it almost in the opposite: a guy running full bore on kickoff returns who nervously botches a catch or two, versus a fairly high profile veteran who hasn't produced anything, really, since he arrived, and he's kind of dogging it out there, short-arming, pulling up, and flat-out dropping 'em.

I obviously agree with you that Patten has more talent out of the box right now, because we know very little about Espy. But I'm much more interested a young dude with fire who's a little raw than an experienced but (IMO) pretty lackluster old dude, personally. At least Espy can still improve. I really don't expect to see new heights of production out of Patten; if anything it seems like he's sulking over the signings of Randle-El and Lloyd.

Funny, Patrick and Riggins even mentioned last night that Gibbs said something to the effect of, we aren't concerned about the health of of the O-Line because they could just trade Patten for a backup any time they needed to. It's almost like he's just there for trade currency.

Re: Thrash, Espy or Farris

I'm agreeing with you on much of that. It's disappointing the way Patten has been playing, particularly because of all the noise we've heard about how Patten isn't concerned with the WR situation and "just wants the opportunity to play". It hasn't looked that way so far.

And I'm also open to your point about young blood. We're talking about a 5th receiver spot. This isn't a guy we will be using on offense that often, so having a potential upside, even one that isn't readily apparent, goes a big way.

The way I look at it is this: if Moss, ARE, or Lloyd get injured, who do I want coming in on 3 receiver sets? Is it Espy, or is it Patten? I want Patten. I think he's proven himself as a reliable 3rd receiver in this league, and I just don't know about Espy. I'll take the sure bet any day.

Re: Thrash, Espy or Farris

Totally agree with that. I think there's a possibility that someone else picks up Espy, especially after the way he played last week.

Has anyone fallen from grace faster than Espy since just Saturday afternoon?

Not that i know of. He had a horrible outing last night. I think he'll go to the practice squad, Thrash makes the team.
