there is a report in the pittsburg gazett(i think thats the name of the paper) that grimm has been offered the head coaching job.
i wonder if the steelers are taking a page out of the redskins coaching book.
they could make grimm head coach offense and tomlin head coach defense.

i think grimm has to be pretty smart.he mastered the skins offense enough to be the emergency qb the last 7 years he played.i would like to see grimm back with skins because maybe then ,coach gibbs could prune him to take over when he retires again.as far as i have heard,that job has'nt been promised to greg williams or anybody else has it?

Yeah I didn't mean to imply that Tomlin doesn't deserve it. Just wondering why, out of two relatively unknown coaches, they chose the one that hasn't been a part of the organization for the past several years. I wonder what they saw, or didn't see, in Grimm. Did he interview poorly? Was he asking for too much control?

Apparently Williams gets $1 million if he's not offered the job, but that's nothing to Snyder. That's not guarantee, in my opinion, that he's the next head coach of the Washington Redskins.

Today's Wash Post says Tomlin has the job and the Steelers announce it later today. I'm not surprised they hired from outside as thats what they did when they got Cowher.

I had heard on Sports talk 980 that Grimm's biggest problem is that he is not very good with the media and when you are talking about being a head coach you have to be a good coach and good with the media.

See I think the whole PR thing is a bunch of BS. Is Bill B. a good PR guy? Hell no. But he's a great football coach and that's all that matters.

I think one problem may be Grimm's selectivity. On the one hand, good for him that he looks for the best opportunity for him. On the other hand, I heard he has turned down a lot of interview requests for head coaching positions in the NFL. For someone looking for his first gig I'm not sure it's the best idea to say no as often as he allegedly does.

Slightly off-topic for a second, how about them Seahawks hiring Jim Mora to be assistant head coach?

i saw him a few times being interviewed as a player,i have'nt seen him being interviewed as a coach though.bac in the 1980s,we used to get channel 5 out of dc,and steve buckhantz had a
redskins show that came on monday nights.i saw grimm,jacoby,george starke,a lot of guys come on that show and talk on more than one occasion.i'd love to see grimm in dc because he can't do anything but help gibbs and some of the older guys on staff catch up on what they missed when they all left in the 1990s!

You said Grimm could have become the next Andy Reid. That's possible. But it is also just as possible that he could have become the next Wayne Fontes. As of this moment, he's been the head coach of exactly nothing so we have no idea how good - - or horrid - - he might be at the job.

A friend of mine has a few pretty good "NFL sources"; it's his job to cultivate such sources. According to my friend and his sources, Grimm is not only selective about the interviews he takes and the jobs he will consider, he is ALSO very rigid and demanding in his interviews about the conditions under which he will take a job.

That can be great for him if those rigidities are well founded and based on a really well thought out plan. But, they have to be a bit "off-putting" to an owner interviewing someone who has never been a head coach or even a coordinator yet. That owner is sitting there listening to a guy tell him how things are going to be with the owner's team and with the owner's participation BEFORE this newbie coach is even hired.

I do NOT know if all that is true; but that is the "talk on the drums". IF that is the case, then Grimm is making it difficult on himself to get his first head coaching job; on the other hand, when he does get one, it will be the one he wants in terms of the working conditions and the "pecking order".

BTW, my friend tells me that Grimm's agent was contacted by the Raiders folks for an interview and Grimm turned down the interview. Some may call that arrogant; I think he's just not going to waste his time talking about a job that he knows from the outset he wouldn't take if it were offered to him.

Then again, he did interview with the Bidwells in Arizona...,

I guess he just doesn't want to be put in a position where he is likely to fail. Some think that "hey, there are only 32 jobs in thw rold like this" and take what they can get. I guess he is of the opposite mind set that having any one of the 32 isn't all that great. He'll get a job one of these days. There's always openings.

There are always openings but the calls might stop coming. Its like when you keep calling a friend to go get a drink and he keeps saying no, what happens, you stop calling and asking. I think it could be the same with NFL owners, Grimm keeps saying no so they stop calling because lets face it while there are always openings there are also always hot new coaches coming along. While Grimm is trying to protect himself against failure it seems like he is being so protective that he may never get the chance to succeed or fail.
