Re: Here we go again with Briggs

Something tells me it would be awfully hard to pry their 2nd round pick away. I'm thinking a 3rd would be reasonable, as people have already suggested above.

We definelty need there third to do this deal. We either get Okoye or Landry with the 6th.

Or Briggs, A. Spencer (DE Purdue) or Harrell (DT Tenn) at 31, and the best DT or S available in the third.

The latter seems a little better to me.

Unless we totally rape the Bears on this deal, I wouldn't do it. I'm tired of the Skins getting the short end of deals or barely breaking even.

Shit, throw in Kyle Orton or something!!

Man I thought that the skins were trying to be more cap conscious this year and in the future. Signing a 3rd starting caliber WLB for 7 mil a year does not go under that category.

I thought it was the Bears who were firm on getting another pick with this deal -- not the other way around.

It all depends on who is more desperate. And if past performance is any indicator of the future, we know which team that generally turns out to be.

I dont think that we could possibly get anything more than just swapping picks. We will not get another draft pick. This is because we already offered just swapping picks once, so the Bears know that we are willing to do this, and they will probably take nothing less. The only way I see us getting more picks is by throwing another player in the trade.

I think the Bears have become more desperate though, I think they were expecting to be able to unload Briggs to somebody well before this Saturday, but they haven't been able to. Now in the final hour, their choice is to take the best deal they can get for him, or have him sit out 10 games of the year as he's threatened to do. For once, the other team is the one with their backs against the wall in a trade negotiation.

JLC seems to hint that the Skins could be trying to extract another pick.

According to one league source, the Bears could settle for Washington's original offer prior to Saturday should no better deal come along. The Redskins could in turn request additional compensation for their first-round draft choice.

Re: Here we go again with Briggs

Didn't Gibbs trade two second round picks to move up and select McIntosh as our future weakside LB??? I'd rather give Rocky a chance to develop. He's far cheaper than Briggs will be, and that money saved could be used to bolster the D-line, the real weakness of this defense.

Briggs looks great playing behind the best D-line in the NFC, not to mention playing next to Urlacher. How would he look behind our seive of a D-line? My biggest concern is that he has been a product of the talented players around him.

Re: Here we go again with Briggs

JLC's article in todays Wash.Post on the prospective trade for Briggs further illustrates the Redskins long-practicing desire to trade 1st round picks for established players. Since they obviously feel there is no one at #6 who will make an immediate impact, this trade for Briggs from their perspective is attractive.

My response is to the "we could only get their third is" - "Well, we don't need Briggs, he is a big talent - but if you want us to take him off your hands give us your first and second. You want Rocky? Tell you what, you throw in ur third, we'll throw in Marshall".

I keep hearing rumors that Spencer is going to go somewhere in the 1st round, possibly to Dallas. Granted, they are just rumors, but Spencer is getting a lot of air time lately.

This will not happen...this is just Drew R. leaking a "story" to the Post. Trying to get some buzz going to influence his potential payday. Drew is desperate to get something done and the Post is desperate for some sort of inside story on the 'skins since they know longer have the access they did pre Snyder. Not worth the speculation.

I have never bees on board with this trade from the beginning, so I hope what you're saying is right.

Re: Here we go again with Briggs

Briggs would be a disastrous deal no matter how you look at it. The guy makes a whole lot of money, and played along Brian Urlacher...not london fletcher.

If we just go through the motions and make our draft picks for the next few years, we will get our turn at the playoffs, instead we take shortcuts and dig ourselves bigger holes

we need dan snyder to stop talking to Drew Rosenhouse, and we need Dan Snyder never play a role in picking players ever again, then we would be ok
