Re: CBS James Brown Awesome pre-game commentary

(Lifted this from ES)

Here is a transcript of JB's comments:

"Let me add my personal observations. An awful lot has been written and said about Sean Taylor over the past week. A young man without a doubt made mistakes, some foolish, some egregious and some immature and in no way am I looking to triviolize his transgressions or excuse them. But are those reasons enough for some to be so insensitive, so quick and I think so inaccurate in sterotyping Sean Taylor as a bad apple, or that the end he met with was not a surprise. A group of burgulers break into HIS HOUSE and surprise to find him there and end his life? Now by all accounts as we've heard from all those who actually knew him well, Taylor did an awful lot of maturing over the last year and a half. For those who have been mature for a lot longer than that, exercising restraint in passing such callaous and harmful judgement would seem to be in order..."

Echo everyone's comments here. JB said what truly needed to be said. Great job from a class act.

i thought he did a nice job too... it was absolutely pitiful after the initial reports of his death that so many wanted to exalt themselves by pointing fingers at the victim...

Its just as classless as saying a rape victim "asked for it" by dressing a certain way or wearing makeup.... actually more so because its a murder victim.

I didn't see Brown's comments, but so glad there was a class act among the bunch. Wilbon's patronizing this week was more than I could take -- tool.

Could someone summarize Jim's commentary a bit more? thx.

Great analogy. Wilbon still doesn't get it.

Re: CBS James Brown Awesome pre-game commentary

I'm pretty sure I've heard that James Brown is a big Redskins fan...and I thought his comments were really good as well and I was glad to see that CBS let him say it (or maybe they didn't know he was). While Wilbon wasn't the only one he was targeting with those comments...it definitely seems more aimed at him with him writing for the Post and also the stage he has with PTI. I've actually always been a Wilbon fan, and honestly...had this same incident happened with someone like Pacman or Vick and he would've made those same comments, I probably would've agreed with him. But since it was a guy on MY team....I gave Sean the benefit of the doubt....even though there was a good chance what Wilbon and the others were right in what they were saying.

It basically just goes to show whether or not it's the news media or the sports media, they're always going to jump on the negative....because it's what sells the most. Such a shame.

Exactly. I was saying the same thing the other day. "Oh yeah, I'm not surprised she got raped, did you see how she was dressed? And did you see how she was dancing in the bar?" It's disgusting and props to JB for calling his colleagues out.
