Re: SI's Best & Worst Owners
Because they are out of topics and the most popular is to bash The Skins, because they can break down the run that Bought Bruce Smith and Co. in after the fact and look like they know what they are talking about. If I remember a lot of them had us ranked very high because of the signings...That Archulerta stings the most

Re: SI's Best & Worst Owners
I haven't read the article. I quickly skipped down to write. I would wager that (because its from the media's stand point) DS is somewhere near the bottom because he can't field a winnable team and all the coaching changes.
However they forget that he simply does want to win and will spend whatever or do whatever it takes to field a winning team which is far better then most owners. |

Re: SI's Best & Worst Owners
I don't understand how in the baseball section the author praises the Steinbrenner's as some of the best owners in baseball due to their spending copius amounts of money to ring in top tier talent, when in the same article the author derides Dan Snyder under the came criteria. Obviously the sports are different, and there really isn't a salary cap in baseball, but how is all the new high priced talent on the Yankees working out? Also on the subject of other sports, how is Ted Leonsis, the man who made the Caps the most exciting/ hottest ticket in DC not among the best owners in the NHL. Just saying.

It's all about winning man, the media is a POS. If we were winning Peter King and everyone would be all up on DS's nuts.

Re: SI's Best & Worst Owners
No surprise with snyder being one of the worst, but I'd put him at five cause the owner of the browns and the 49ers owner haven't made it to the playoffs as of late

Re: SI's Best & Worst Owners
Perhaps the reason for beating these dead horses is the inescapable facts of the last decade:
1. In the year Snyder took over ownership of the team, the team was in the playoffs. They weren't nearly a great team, but they made the playoffs. 2. At that point Danny Boy went on his first binge of signing fantasy-style players and becoming his team's super scout. [Recall that he pronounced to the Wash Post Sunday Magazine that it was he who "found" Patrick Ramsey and directed the team to draft Ramsey.] How did any of those moves work out? Oh, and there were subsequent spending sprees up to and incouding this off-season. 3. In the decade of Danny Boy's ownership and guidance, the team has had six head coaches - - counting interim coach Terry Robiske or "Rubinsky" as Deion called him showing just how familiar "Rubinsky" was to the team in general. 4. In the decade of Danny Boy's ownership and guidance the team has won 2 playoff games and one of those wins came in the year Danny Boy "inherited" the team and had not had any chance to influence it at all. All that spending in search of winning - - as opposed to the stingy Jeffrie Lurie in Phhilly - - and the Skins have two playoff wins in 10 years while the Eagles have been to a Super Bowl once and to the NFC Championship Game five times. Yeah, I'd really rather change owners if I were a Philly native... Now, how any rational ranking of the ownerships in the NFL could not have the Rooneys and their stewardship of the Steelers over the past 15 years in the top 5 in the league is a mystery to me. So, if you want to say that the list is subjective and you disagree with the list, be my guest. But please don't try to convince me that Danny Boy is one of the top two or three owners in the NFL based on results. Because that just won't fly...

I think Snyder is a better than average owner right now. If he really gets out of the "GM role" he still has with the Skins he will move up higher on my list into the top 2 or 3 owners. Cerrato is kinda the GM but I know Snyder still has his nose in the player moves and that holds him back from becoming a great owner. When the Redskins finally have a true GM and Snyder just signs the checks the Redskins will win alot more and he will become one of the best owners in this league. |

The only problem is, journalism over the last several decades has declined greatly. Of course, that will happen as the pool fills up with more & more people & opinions. Unfortunately, that also means that intelligence thins out & lack of substance stays afloat longer. So, they drudge up old things that happened years ago to reiterate their point that Snyder is a bad owner. Let us not forget that SI hates the Skins & Snyder, probably due to his lack of cooperation with them & the rest of the media to do interviews & the fact that they have an over abundance of Cowboys fans employed with them. During the regular football season, it seems that if they aren't talking about Tom Brady & the PaCheaters, they are talking about the Cowboys & how they are still "America's team......" Excuse me, I just threw up in my mouth a little. So, I'm not at all surprised that these ding-a-lings continue to bring up old mistakes that Snyder has made just to keep people aware that he isn't the brightest owner out there. Their need to be right supersedes good journalism at SI. I have personally boycotted them almost since Snyder bought the team. They haven't seen a penny from me in over a decade. |

Re: SI's Best & Worst Owners
We don't just watch football in hopes of our team winning a championship. You watch because it's so frustratingly entertaining. And i enjoy this website primarily during the offseason as a fix to tide me over until August. So Dan, keep making offseason splashes, we are watching, and blogging.
And it's certainly better to talk about the Redskins overspending, then to not talk about the Redskins. |
