The deep passing game definitely has to be there this year, otherwise we're going to struggle to score again. You've gotta have those explosive plays.

To this day, I still wonder what would have happened if wide-open rapper/model/wide receiver (yes, wide receiver comes last, and thats not a testement to his rapping or modeling abilities), Brandon Lloyd had caught that long bomb that Campbell threw right into his hands to open the 2007 season... it could have sparked this team to go on to great things. Instead, the ball went right through his hands and it seemed like Gibbs gave up on deep plays for the rest of the season. Gibbs might still be here; Campbell would be entering his 3rd year in the same offensive system; hell ST might not have even died. Yes, in case your wondering, I do blame Brandon Lloyd for all that is wrong in the world.

It may not be proper attribution, but Brandon Lloyd certainly deserves it.

yeah i remember that play like it was yesterday . . . . skins sctrechin the field this year? please children im smart enough to know this teams strengths is running the ball and defense. im not gonna be lulled into the fairy tale that this same team with the same weapons is suddenly gonna be explosive. i expect JC to be efficient and our team offense to produce exactly the same as its been with campbell, portis moss and cooley.

these guys are our offense and theyve been here for years. we are a defensive team with a penchant for running the ball down teams throats. im a defense guy so i dont give 2 rats asses how little but progresivly better cambpell and the passing game gets. as long as they can keep defenses guessin and respectin the pass i could care less at our never had stretchin the field pipe dream.

this same crap has been said and hoped upon every year for as long as i can remember, fin jeff george, b llyood and ARE ring a bell? now we think tall receivers are the way to go with kelly n thomas.

get a franchise qb to compliment this D. i know these dont grow under trees but we cant stop tryin/lookin then we dont need to tailor eveyrthing perfectly around an adequate qb.

fickty im rarely drunk postin

go skins

We need to get that play action going...

to get off topic remember that MNF game when Brunell hooked up with Moss to win it?

I need to get a copy of that game on dvd or something....thats my favorite Skins memory sans the Super Bowl years

Completely agree. If Portis and Betts combine for 1500 to 2000 yards it will open up the play action and screen possibilities in a big way. With success running, the opposing corners will have to go one on one and I'll take Santana or even M. Kelly in a one on one deep matchup any day. Even if you miss a couple of the deep ones, it will at least make the defense think about it and then the underneath stuff opens up for Cooley and hopefully Fred Davis and maybe even Alridge out of the backfield if he makes the team, I hope.

The missing element to that is time. If Zorn and Campbell and these players are given multiple seasons to play together and get some consistency between player personnel and coaches, then the offense could mature into something special. Hopefully the team will have the patience to stick to a long term plan, but the reality is that the offense needs to make big strides this year or else.

I think he meant the whole team overall when he went rb(s)

Arizona had less than that as a team

Steelers had like 1700 rushing yards as a team

The west coast offense was never suited to his talents. I know Zorn let JC take some shots down the field more this preseason, but I am not sure you can call it a new offense. Sorry dude, but in all the games I followed(every one, but the Ravens debacle) I just see much of a difference. That being said JC has some new tools(targets) to use and to hit with his passes. That in itself will lead to an improved passing attack. JC has come along also, but I just haven't seen too many big passes being completed to call this a new offensive scheme. Now if JC threw more long ones and completed more to say Kelly and Thomas then I could concur, but most of the passes thrown by any SKins QB this preseason were 10 yards or less.

Somewhat agree. I also think Zorn does not want to give the Giants anything to work with for the first game so he has let JC take a shot here and there or maybe purposefully has him missing to make other teams think our timing is off then come day 1 slam the Giants. ...LOL. Conspirathy theory. LOL. I also think he was trying to either get JC to use all his receivers or look at all the WR's he had on the roster. I get the feeling Zorn is going to suprise people this yr with the down the field passing game he was talking about last yr.

I def agree w/ this. Bet by week 3 or 4 the talking heads will be commenting about how we have a whole new offense after years of the doldrums. I'm getting excited cuz I really think the offense could be a wonderful surprise if the damn oline holds up.

Re: Zorn Makes Great Progress with New Offense Geared To Campbells Talents

Well when Zorn came here we had no passing game. Moss was our only bonified WR and ARE was dropping balls. The O-line was not blocking well and JC was getting sacked. Can't have a passing game w/o a decent O-line blocking. Can't have a passing game w/o decent WR's catching or atleast more then 1 threat on the field. All they had to do was double team Moss and stack up in the box. Things have changed. Either the O-line has better players (which I thought we kept the same people for the most part) or you change your blocking scheme, which I wonder if Zorn had Bugel do. Then we picked up more WR's.

As the experts have pointed out. JC has shown flashes of being able to get rid of the ball quickly but it's ony flashes. Give him time to throw like the O-line has and he can pick them apart.

You think maybe that's something Gibbs and Zorn talked about when they were discussing Campbell during the off season?

Maybe it just me fantasizing, but those were my thoughts exactly.
