Latest Sporting News Mock Draft- Williams at #5 to Skins?

I made a post two weeks ago regarding taking Williams at five. IMO, you don't pass up BMW just because you don't need him- he's the ONLY receiver i'd take over a need spot though. I'd take Williams over Fitz in a heartbeat. This guy was getting triple teamed last year and still dominated.

if we do get him ya know Rod Gardner will end up being a Chief next year. If not that the release of McCants sorry to see that happen.

gardner will be a redskin next year,he may leave after FA but he will be a redskin in the 2004 season.

Skins will most likely trade down to get a second or 3rd round pick. If they don’t they’d better have a good reason not to.

it will be either winslow or taylor.i can't see them trading down,they do not have much cap room left.

Don't forget, the Skins could still release Larry Moore, Trung Canidate and/or Byron Chamberlain and free up around $2.5 million. But I tend to think the Skins will be trading down to the middle of the first round, and picking up a guy like Udeze. Until the draft comes, you can be assured that the Skins will play up the idea of using the #5 pick, possibly on an offensive guy, to rally more bidders for a trade.

My thoughts exactly Joe, we will definitely be making more room in the salary cap with cuts, right now we have a lot of players that have already been replaced...

mike williams isn't even the best williams wr in the draft so why would we draft him. I know he's a good wr but if we were to draft one hopefully after trading down, I say we draft Roy Williams. he's the best overall wr physically and skillwise.

Amen, Roy Williams is by far the superior WR in this draft. I love how he's been tearing it up consistantly forever.

Either way I want Taylor.

I don't think our D line is in trouble at all. We got decent hard working D linemen and we still might get more. Plus with Taylor an abundance of D backs and linebackers to rush. I think we'll be fine provided the D line gets a little push and our blitzers come free!

I hope they trade down and somehow come up with Udeze and Jake Grove if he slips. Grove is the missing piece on the OL and Gibbs likes him.

Actually, trading down would be much more cap friendly (depending on the position played by the guy we draft at #5). If we pick a d-lineman at the #5 pick we're looking at a SB of about $11-13 million and a contract averaging between $4-$6 million per year.

If we took Taylor I'm not how much that would cost since I don't have a frame of refernce - no safety has been drafted at #5 in recent memory (if at all).

Trading down to say the #20 pick and getting another 2nd or 3rd rounder would be nice and easy on the cap since the difference in salary between a #5 pick and a #20 pick is outrageous given that the talent level is not immensely different. A second or third round rookie contract wouldn't cost much at all.

with some trades going on, does anyone know what teams have the first couple picks in the second round? I ask because if any of these mock drafts are close to being accurate, grove will be gone by around pick 5 in the second round. is there anyone we could trade with to still get a first rounder plus one of those picks in the 2nd? the only way I see us getting a decent 2nd round pick is if we trade down in the first round from our spot and then trade down again completely out of the first round with one of the teams who had a top four pick and get their 2nd,3rd, and 4th/5th rounders. either way I agree with a lot of you and think our cap space is going to dictate that we have to trade down atleast once if not twice.

The 1 prob. with that is getting an impact pass rushing end in the middle of the rd. I don't think it can be done unless we get lucky, who would you take that would make that kind of an impact in the middle of the 1st? Drafting a defensive end isn't a prob. but if we draft a guy in the middle of the first we will be looking next year for another D-end and we won't have taylor to show for this draft, mediocur D-end's are a dime a dozen, If the guy isn't special don't waste a pick on him.

Sounds to me like Udeze could be a special player ... it's just that there seem to be a lot of special players in the top half of the first round and that's driving his stock down.
