Re: Prospects for Shanahans offense/Hasletts 3-4 D
That won't matter because Darth Hoody will put the franchise tag on him and will keep him there.

Only to have Al Davis give him another first round pick.

No shit. Pretty soon you're going to see the Pats with the Raiders' #1 picks for the next five years.

Peppers wants to play OLB in a 3-4 (ESPN article). I wouldn't be surprised if Danny put his dogs on the hunt. McIntosh isn't that good. He's a weaker version of LaVar...misses too many tackles.

But if they don't tag him, he's got to be our absolute #1 free agent priority.

Re: Prospects for Shanahans offense/Hasletts 3-4 D
I'd say our chances of landing Peppers are about 100%.
50/50 on Vince Wilfork, depending on whether or not Al Davis lets him go. In a capless year, i think we break the record for spending in free agency and worry about any potential consequences when the cap is reinstated later. The mere thought of having Wilfork, Haynesworth, and Montgommery on the line with Peppers and Orakpo rushing from the outside makes me shudder. The key, as always, will be having sufficient depth so we don't overwork those guys. Bruce Allen has publically stated that the #1 reason he and Shanahan will succeed whether other great men have failed (Gibbs, Marty, Norv) is the lack of a salary cap. The skins are going to be big spenders in this offseason. As long as we keep our draft picks, i'm happy.

Re: Prospects for Shanahans offense/Hasletts 3-4 D
It is amazing how different Peppers is this offseason from last. Last year he was harsh and demanding. This year, looking at a free market, he is sweet, cooperative, and willing to accept anything.
He and/or his agent should be in politics, as they are masters at manipulating public image.

Re: Prospects for Shanahans offense/Hasletts 3-4 D
I know this is an uncapped year, or atleast barring a miracle it will be, but I had linked to an article by a former Skins cap analyst that said that if the cap comes back, still probable in his eyes, there would be some pro-rated type of accounting on salary cap hits.
That said, I just don't get the Maddenesque moves discussed on this board. What happened to the you can't buy a championship mantra that sprung up in the season, or you need team players not big money seekers. If we grab a solid player at a position of need great, but throwing money at UFA's is not the way to get our team headed in the right direction. Shanahan said he was going to make his scheme fit our personnel. That is what I want to see, on Defense especially, we have solid talent, and should field a top tier D without throwing another big name big headache guy into the mix. The only guy I would like, and he isn't available is Cribbs, I would love to see a deal to get that done, otherwise, let's layoff the FA Juice, and build a team with wise moves and good decisions, not the fattest checks. |

ideally, i'd like to see us use the majority (if not all) of our draft picks this year to focus on offense. defensively, we already have a few players who can help us in a 3-4. There should be quite a few free agents who could help us there. in 2011, we can then draft some guys for added depth on defense. on a side note, if we do switch to a 3-4, would Orakpo have to change his jersey number since he would be a full-time LB?

Re: Prospects for Shanahans offense/Hasletts 3-4 D
Even without a cap, is there any way we could justify the type of money at one position to have both Wilfork and Haynesworth on the payroll? Even the Yankees don't have Mark Teixeria and Ryan Howard and Prince Fielder, even though they could easily afford to pay them all and have a DH spot in their lineup.
