How about Randy moss, Raymond Berry, Steve Largent, etc. ahead of Monk who's not even listed. BULLSHIT list!! Monk was as good as Rice, he didn't have 2 HOF QB's throwing to him nor did he play twice against NO, Atlanta and The Rams (wow, what an amazing list of power teams during the 80's). I'm sick of all this moron's (writers who think they know everything). What would have Monk accomplished if he had Montana and Young throwing to him in a passing offense? Sorry SFRedskin. As much as I love Monk he simply was not the WR Jerry Rice was. He had monster games with Steve Bono and Rich Gannon throwing him the ball. Hard to argue that Rice simply was the best wr of all time.

I've watched every game played by Rice here in SF and Monk, Rice was faster and played in a weak ass division accumulating stats especially against NO and Atlanta. To me (u can call me a homer) Rice was no better than Monk. I bet Monk had better stats against the 49ers than Rice had against the skins. Monk never whined "give me the ball" and throw tantrums like Rice used to do. Rice reminds me of Harold Jackson (Rams) great player, fast.

Charley Taylor was a more dominant receiver in his era than Art Monk. He was a top 5 receiver all-time IMO. He played before the illegal contact rules went into effect in the late 70s.

Should point out that the list is "32 Great Receivers" not "32 Greatest Receivers" and so some have a reading comprehension issue. To argue against someone on the list, you'd have to argue that they weren't a great receiver. Which, in Swann's case, is likely true.

But yeah, Art Monk is one of the 32 greatest receivers of all time, and probably would be on the top half of such a list.

Irving Fryar - about 13K yds, 84TDs, 5 Pro Bowls
Harold Carmichael - 6' 7" TD machine, about 9K yds, 79TDs, 4 Pro Bowls
Charlie Hennigan - #2 & #8 all-time Yds per Game / per season.....in the early 1960s, YPG/season #13 all-time, 5 Pro Bowls
Art Powell - 7 effective years playing, over 1000 yds/season 5 times....in the 1960s, 4 Pro Bowls

OK, so I should warn you up front that 32 can be a constricting number. There are a LOT of great receivers who did not make this list — John Mackey, Tommy McDonald, Tom Fears, Charlie Sanders, Charlie Joyner, Jimmy Smith, Rod Smith, Wes Chandler, Harold Jackson, Henry Ellard, Lionel Taylor, Rod Smith, Chad Ochocinco and Art Monk just to name a few. You can certainly take some guys off and put others on. You can certainly mess with the order.

But, I think you will find that 32 is not an especially large number when you’re choosing great receivers … there have been more awesome receivers than awesome running backs, for instance. Anyway, the list is the list … it’s all for entertainment purposes.
