That only works if you are proven coach, even then you have to be smart enough to evaluate your players.

I think this was long overdue. Bowlen gave Son of Hoody wayyyy too much power, and he basically took apart an offense that was pretty good and really didn't need much change.

Joe Thomas did it to San Fran before those west coasters got saved by Bill Walsh. Trading for a washed up OJ Simpson. hahaha

Bring him in as our TE coach to replace Embree. How ironic would that be? 2 ex Broncos coaches that were fired working together.

His problems weren't on offense. He came in with an overachieving offense and traded two guys who have gone to underachieve elsewhere for a king's ransom. Then he got top quartile production out of guys like Kyle Orton and Brandon Lloyd. The running game is coming along, and would be there for them if/when they get a healthy line.

The big problem there was historically bad defense which, you know, was the problem when McDaniels got there. Easy to say now that he should have never fired Mike Nolan, but I have to imagine that a huge internal conflict caused that departure because that defense was terrible before Nolan got there and was terrible after he left.

Kind of funny that what ultimately got McDaniels canned also got Shanahan canned two years before that.

I knew this was coming. He deserved it. Feel bad for the Denver fans but Bowlen should've never gave this guy the power that he did. Still shaking my head at drafting Tebow in the first round.

Grimm would be a good choice for them, or Rob Ryan or John Fox. Maybe Cowher.

No sympathy for the Denver organization....one stupid move after another by the owner, GM and coach

Peyton Hillis is the straw that broke the Camels back. Imagine what Denver would be if they would of kept everyone there. Thank goodness Pat Bowlen came to his senses. I wouldn't mind seeing McDaniel's here as an O-coordinator.

Re: ESPN -- Broncos FIRE Josh McDaniels

I don't understand, they take a great run based team and change it to a primarily passing team. Its like taking a great 4-3 team and changing to a 3-4 just to appease the coaches will.

I heard he was too much of a dictator and didn't delegate and trust his guys enough. Not many guys last very long with that kind of style.

Re: ESPN -- Broncos FIRE Josh McDaniels

So I guess the word on the street is the next coach of the Broncos will be the current head coach at Air Force. That's a bit of a stunner

But I guess they have to go with someone fairly cheap what with them still paying Shanahan and McDaniels (unless they can get out of the McD contract)

Re: ESPN -- Broncos FIRE Josh McDaniels

McDaniel's flirting with Matt Cassel was just the first domino in a series that led to Denver's downfall. It's funny how many of the head coaches who worked for Belicheat think that hoodie's arrogant prick act will work for them (McDaniel, Mangini, Weis). Respect is earned capital, and given McDaniel's mishandling Cutler, trading Hillis, etc., what little capital he had was completely exhausted.
