Re: Anyone like Blaine Gabbert, he just declared for the draft
If we stay at 10 overall I'd take Gabbert. I'd prefer to trade down, though. McShay's latest mock has Gabbert in the top 5.
Luck tonight was absolutely phenomenal. What a talent. Sheesh.

Re: Anyone like Blaine Gabbert, he just declared for the draft
I would pull a Ditka for him if he comes out and Carolina is stupid enough to trade. Trade this years 1st, 2nd, McNabb, Haynesworth and if that's not enough, throw in next years 1st. This guy is the next Brady/Manning.

Christian Ponder?? Are you serious?? I wouldn't even consider drafting him in the first few rounds. I don't see him as a very skilled passer. Yeah he can run around a lot but I just don't see his game working in the NFL. Mid to late round talent IMO.

Re: Anyone like Blaine Gabbert, he just declared for the draft
He hasn't been healthy for most of the year, battling a right elbow injury. Played through it though, and should be fully healthy in a few months anyway. I like him. Not in a "I'm going to mess with the board and rock the boat with a Jevan Snead bandwagon" kind of way, but in a "While he may not be a stud, I genuinely believe people are overlooking Chase Daniel and he can be a legit NFL QB" kind of way...Though I would have never drafted Chase before the 4th as I think there's a difference between legit and franchise. Call me crazy, but I think Ponder could be a surprise franchise QB

Re: Anyone like Blaine Gabbert, he just declared for the draft
Gabbert is not going to be available in the 2nd round. So many teams need QB's. AZ, MN, Carolina, Skins, possible Cinci, Buffalo, Raiders. A lot of qbs will be drafted this year. He is going to move up draft boards as it keeps getting closer.

Luck is a stud and nobody is even close to his talent, tonight we are the seeing the next great future NFL QB. A superstar.

I love Blaine Gabbert. In terms of who would fit our system best, I have him right behind Luck.

In fainess to those who don't rate him as highly as we do, I'd have to admit that taking him at #10 would be a risk. Nevertheless, even if he would be a reach in the upper third of Round 1, I think that somebody is going to take that risk. That's because there are so many QB-starved teams in the NFL right now. I actually think he could go even higher than #10 because of the widespread need for QB's. Conversely, I think that trading down from #10 and still getting him would be highly unlikely. |

I have no doubt in my mind that if Shanny takes the time to evaluate Gabbert, he'll see that he's the best option behind Luck.. The issue is that San Francisco, Buffalo, Arizona, and maybe even Cincinnati will see the same thing, but pick ahead of us. This might even put us in a position to move up and take Nick Fairley.. Who is without a doubt one of the most dominant defensive lineman I've seen in years. |

Re: Anyone like Blaine Gabbert, he just declared for the draft
I disagree...I think Ponder will be a surprisingly good quarterback at the NFL level. If he is surrounded by decent talent, no reason he can't be a good quarterback. Guy has started 25+ games for a decent program, completed 63% of his passes in his career, has got great size (almost andrew luck size) and can run around to make plays with his feet. I wouldn't mind drafting him in the 3rd and seeing if he can't provide some competition.

Re: Anyone like Blaine Gabbert, he just declared for the draft
Andrew Luck really took my Hokies to the shed last night. He looks like the real deal. You can say he didn't have the numbers Bradford had, but just watching the way he played last night it looks like he has all the tools to be an elite quarterback in the NFL. I kinda hope he comes out even though we don't have a shot at him, because it's like someone in this thread already said, if he declares it pushes everybody down a spot, which helps us. But if/when he does come out, I have no doubts he'll be #1. Unless your name is Carolina and you are more concerned with penny pinching than building a Super Bowl contender.

I have nothing but respect for Luck, but I feel the comparison to Elway is lazy. It's based mainly on them both attending Stanford.
