How far? You can't win a marathon with a first time runner so i guess not to the podium.

Re: How far can Beck take us?

THe fact remains, if the offensive line is any good I think we have skill players around Beck to make a difference as far as offensive output. He is a smart kid, has the arm just not sure he has really ever gotten the chance to play. Parcells is a pretty good judge of talent, and he sent a 2nd round pick to Baltimore to get him to Miami. It all is on the offensive line, and Shanny's ability to bring in guys that can play his scheme and have some quality back up if someone goes down. I say 8-8 is pretty good given the transition, but that could go up or down either way by 2 games depending on the D. IF the D comes out and is solid, then we could be fighting for a wild card.

Hopefully Beck will simply be the next Beck. Though I will admit a successful campaign from Beck would have many compare any rise by him to that of Drew Brees.

Brees was a better college QB than Beck. The best analogy if Beck does become a solid QB would be with Kurt Warner, but not so bad, since Warner was bagging groceries at one point. Beck could surprise us all, but if he is having a rough preseason and already getting a groin tweak, I am not so sure. It is early in camp though, so we have to hold final judgement til the end of preseason at the earliest.

Honestly though, I can't think of a QB thats ever been in Becks situation thats turned around his career. And thats not a bad thing because I can't think of any 2nd or 3rd round QB's that were really given an actual shot with another team. For him to be a Brees he would have had to have a breakout year they year they drafted Henne only to have the team eventually say we're going with Henne.

He wasn't undrafted like Warner or Romo. Wasn't a big trade like Favre to the Packers. Steve Young went to the USFL.

The only reason I mention Brees is because thats the guy he seemed to be compared to a lot when he was coming out of college. (2:45 with Steve Young)

Re: How far can Beck take us?

I brought this up in the Stallworth thread. I guess we have to wait and see who we sign and then see what happens over the next month or so.

Re: How far can Beck take us?

If he earns the job (he still has to earn the job, Shanny won't play him if he doesn't think he can win with him), I forsee him being solid.

I don't see us making deep playoff appearances with him or anything, but I think he can be a stabilizing force at the quarterback position for a few years, with a couple surprising runs here and there. He might not be elite, but he'll at least be stable.

On what do you base these opinions? The guy hasn't thrown a pass in an NFL game since 2007! He has thrown exactly one TD in his entire four-year NFL career. I cannot see a single reason, other than blind faith in Shanny, for you to conclude that Beck can stabilize our QB position.

Maybe he will take us all the way to Andrew Luck.
