Re: Fred Davis May get Franchise Tag

The franchise tag is the best option with him. Can you really bank on a repeat violator? We're not talking about $7.25 an hour or having an Aaron Hernandez backing him up. Heck, I'm even open to drafting a TE this year. This won't be a long thread. There's lots of input in the off-season thread already. Tyrone Biggums with a helmet on...

Re: Fred Davis May get Franchise Tag

landry sucks... he could be good, but only if he could get on the field and was never asked to cover anyone.

if fred davis gets suspended, i heard that we get the money back for whatever games he misses, so why not? there are only two guys on this team you'd franchise this year (davis/landry) and both safety and TE are very cheap tags...

can someone clarify this, i thought that if you franchise tag some one their salary is garanteed, is there as clause about being suspended? it would make sense.

I'd have to try and find something, but they've mentioned it on 980 two or three times in the last month about "apparantly the NFL has..." about getting money back for games missed due to suspensions if we worked out a long term deal with him (as in, it would be handled at the nfl level, not at the "redskins must include it in the deal" level if it became an issue).

I don't know if that applies to tags as well, but I wouldn't be surprised.

that's assuming what I heard is correct, but I do believe it to be.

I think if you franchise him then you are minimizing the risk that he'll test positive for weed again. The franchise tag is the equivalent of a one-year deal, which means he'll be playing for a big contract. He'll have every incentive in the world to keep himself clean.

Now that I think about it. Trade him on draft day.

Trade him....

Trade a guy who was suspended 4 games for failing a drug test and is one failed test away from a years suspension.

Trade a guy who spent three years trying to make Skins fans forget he was the one who overslept his first day of training camp.

Sure there'll be a bunch of takers for that. We'd be lucky to get a 4th rounder for him. Even that sounds ludicrous as I type it.

Seems everyone else is saying how valuable he is as our most explosive offensive talent. I don't value him as much. I'm just saying if the Skins decide to trade up in the draft why not consider throwing in Fred Davis.

Because he is worth nothing to other teams...or close to nothing. Players whom a team is familiar with and who the team knows fits the system are always worth more to their team than they are to other teams.

We couldn't get more than a late rounder for him...but we'd have to sign him in some way first. As a franchised guy he isn't worth anything at all unless the other team can work out a long-term deal...and if we resign him straight up we'd probably have him at a reasonable cost...so why trade him?

A trade doesn't seem to make any sense or even be remotely in the cards.

because the juice would not be worth the squeeze. his value to us is higher than it would be to any other teams.

Ok. Maybe the team should sign him for a pretzel and a half-smoke?

Because a good TE is a young QBs best friend.

Cam Newton-Greg Olsen/Jeremy Shockey
Christian Ponder-Kyle Rudolph
Matt Ryan-Tony Gonzalez
Matt Stafford-Brandon Pettigrew
Robert Griffin III/Ryan Tannehill-Fred Davis/Chris Cooley

Re: Fred Davis May get Franchise Tag

If I'm the Redskins, which last time I checked I'm not, I give Davis a reasonable deal (5 years, 27 mil, morality clause or w/e you want to call it that gives the Skins multiple options in case he fails another drug test), and then give Landry the franchise tag. I don't think we need to create another hole on the roster if Landry leaves. He can still be an impact player for us. This would most definitely be his last chance though, and I'd just give him a 1 year deal to prove himself again. Honestly I think it speaks volumes that none of us are even mentioning Fletcher. I really hope it's not a big concern at all.

the problem with your thinking is that if landry does have the surgery he will be out for a year, meaning he will miss next season. the longer and longer this drags on only means bad things for both dirty landry and the redskins. at this point i am just waiting to hear that he is released, and it f-ing sucks cause like you said it's just one more whole.

as far as fletch is concerned i am under thr impression that this front office is not chock full of ruhtards and will be an easy re-sign. from all accounts fletch loves it here and has proven his value. if he doesn't get a nice sized deal for about 3-4 years that would be a huge surprise to me, i see him retiring here.

Well I think we're in it now with Landry. He's not getting the surgery, so he better hope and pray his alt. therapy works. I just don't want to see him go when I know that when he's healthy he can make a good impact.
