Re: Brown & Howard both to the D?
defense needs to make more big plays tho. with a pass rusher that creates fumbles and pressure, leading to more ints, etc.

Re: Brown & Howard both to the D?
we only had 1 defensive td last year i believe, from pierce in the SF game...so def need more. if we want to be elite like the ravens, we need defensive scores to help the offense.

Re: Brown & Howard both to the D?
Courtney brown at a good price would be huge for the defense. Not only would we not have to draft a DE but would give us two solid DE's assuming he and daniels stay healthy. Wether its mike williams or or another defensive player the signing of brown would be awesome.

Re: Brown & Howard both to the D?
if the skins do sign brown i think it would definately be an interresting move. it's a gamble but if he's cheap, then i say go get him. he could really be just what the skins need. then with the first pick in the draft i would say it's either a wr or a cb.

Re: Brown & Howard both to the D?
Darren Howard has reportedly just asked the Cowboys for a 6 yr, $33M deal with a $16M signing bonus!!!! I would say his asking price has just effectively let us know there is no chance he is heading to the Skins.

Re: Brown & Howard both to the D?
Even though Brown has been nothing but a walking wounded I still like the idea of taking a chance on him. He's not going to break the D if he doesn't work out, but if he does work out... the D could be damn scary!

Re: Brown & Howard both to the D?
If we could add Brown into the mix, we could then concentrate on adding a quality DT, Corner, and TE in the draft. Trading Gardner may give us a good draft to build some quality depth at some critical positions.
I'm not even going to comment on Howard because of the money (but with Snyder... you never know)

Re: Brown & Howard both to the D?
No way they get Howard too much cash, especially as thrifty as the skins have been this year. Brown should come cheap and he played with LA and his and Williams have the same agent, I am sure the agent has relayed a couple messages back and forth. Hopefully that will happen he can be better than any rookie if he stays healthy...

Re: Brown & Howard both to the D?
I would rather we go to the draft for DE. Erasmus James for instance. I got a feeling we will pick a LB with the 9th pick.

Re: Brown & Howard both to the D?
drafted DEs tend to take about 3 years to develop, so the impact of that pick wouldn't be immediate most likely.

Re: Brown & Howard both to the D?
If the New Orleans Saints agree to Howard for Gardner even up, then I'd suspect that Danny Boy had a very large caliber gun to the head of Saints' owner Tom "Boogie Boy" Benson during the negotiations.
I suspect that the asking price for Howard in terms of the deal he will command will be bigger than the deal given to Smoot or Pierce. That might make it difficult for the Skins to squeeze into the salary cap.

When you take into account the money spent on Brunell and Portis last season, and factor in the cap hit from Coles' trade this season, it's hard to justify pouring more cap money into the offense. The Skins are trying to make up for the losses of Pierce and Smoot on the defensive side, and they've needed to solidify the D-line for some time now, so I can see why they're pursuing defensive talent. |

Re: Brown & Howard both to the D?
I'm down for just DRAFTING into the offense. No more FA signings (as if there WAS someone worthy to sign).
