Patient?? Patient?? We have been bad for over 13 years! One playoff appearance in about 13 years?? Patience you say. Look at the Bears and Tampa....who were just plain bad last year.......playing Orton and Simms respectively......and are good solid football teams this year. Patience.....I don't know if you've noticed, but patience is not something the NFL is predicated on.

the redskins and Dan the man are certainly not based on patience. I dont know if they know what that means. Which is why we do the same crap every offseason. throw draft picks away, pay too much money for players in their 30's and some in the mid 30's.

This franchise became plainly disfunctional after JKC's passing. Snyder brought a mentality of (1) thinking he knew more about football than he did, (2) impatience (win now at any cost with overpriced veterans), and (3) Vinny must be good cause he wears starched white shirts, suspenders, and likes my cigars.

Into this pathological mix comes Joe Gibbs, who has to reassemble a staff from scratch, re-learn certain aspects of the game and flat out learn how to beat our division rivals . . . and . . . fit into a Snyder-Cerrato led front office (the very people screwing up the team over recent years).

Maybe there's more needed here than just Gibbs, even though I trust him to keep steadily improving the team. (Have I mentioned VC?)

I am perfectly willing to wait a few years for Gibbs to get the team straight, and molded the way he wants, but my main concern is his patience level. If he were in his mid 50's, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for him to coach 10+ years, but he's 64. He's not going to be wanting to deal with the 80 hour weeks, grueling all night film sessions, and constantly being under the media microscope for too much longer. I'm thinking he has two or three more seasons left in him at the most.

I think the biggest thing with Spurrier is how he just gave up after two years. He also didn't seem to be willing to put in the hours it takes to succeed in the NFL (being on the golf course as much as possible during the season.) I agree 100% here. I am not trying to make a case for Spurrier here, it just seems like at this point in the year during his reign he was constantly thrown under the bus, and Gibbs hasn't been any more successful than Spurrier. I think as fans we should try to take our personal bias's out just a little bit and realize that the team is not getting it done and I relate that straight back to the head coach, especially when they assume GM and playcalling responsibilities.

As far as Spurrier quitting, I don't think that's really what happened. I think Snyder told him he could quit or he could be fired, pick which you want. Spurrier has all the money he needs and was disappointed in what he did in Washington and took the first route.

I have always had nothing but the utmost respect for Joe Gibbs the man, as well as Joe Gibbs the coach. I am also convinced he will get the team back on course though the #1 question still remains, how long will he continue, and what will our situation be once he decides to call it quits?

When Gibbs took over the team to begin his first tenure he inherited a much better team than the one he took over this time around which partially explains why he's not off to the same type start where he had the team in the SB after his second season. During the course of his success he had two HOF players the likes of which he has nothing simular this time around. When you couple that with all the changes that has affected the game since he last coached, it's going to take patience on the part of all us fans and hope for simular success. His greatest challenge is going to be keeping "what he calls his core group" together long enough to make a difference. In this age of "RENT A PLAYER" it's going to be difficult. Patience is something the NFL is short on now and there's so much pressure on coaches to win now. I just hope Mr. Snyder has learned that patience is going to be the key to any success we're going to have, and allow coach Gibbs to fulfill his misson.

But, we've had this conversation before, Daseal. I know you understand the situation of last season. Didn't you say that you'd give him three seasons? As far as success of Joe Gibbs, looking at win-lose total up to this point only, is the only knock against Gibbs. For the most part, he has done everything right in preparing this team to return to it's glory. It takes patience, something that alot Redskins fans don't have nowadays unfortunately. Have you paid a visit to Tony McGee's post concerning this? I believe you'd be very enlightened by what Tony has to say in regards to player's efforts and Joe Gibbs. It's hard to argue with a guy who has actually played under Joe Gibbs and knows the state of the NFL.

As far as Spurrier's exodus form the NFL. We have also had this conversation before. Spurrier said he quit. Sure, we don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but assuming something is fact when we don't know that to be true doesn't make it true. All we have to go by is Spurrier's word. You know, there is possibly a chance that Spurrier felt he wasn't cut out for the NFL. Not every college coach who is successful in college can repeat that success in the NFL.

yes, gibbs is huge for this team, i really wouldn't want anyone else. he has brought stability and organization to this team. the team was hectic until he came in and has started to sort out the team. we didnt go on a spending spree as in years past, which i attribute to gibbs arrival. results will come...patience is required...something we havent had in years past. if gibbs is around next year, look for big things

theres no one else other than Joe Gibbs i would have coaching this team.before he came back i wanted lovie smith.he's looking like a good coach. that 's team who has a lot in common record wise with us over the last couple of years and it's taken them a xouple of years but they' re now making some noise. i believe with a couple of crutiial parts we can make some big noise.( de , dt , cb o line 2nd wr, te depth)possibly a qb
