Re: Redskins-Cowboys Rivalry: Does it Still Top Your List?
YES I HATE DALLAS! I have been to Dallas many times for one thing or another, as I lived in the Houston area for several years. I have been to Skins/Boys games in Texas stadium. Let me tell you, it's a treat being a Skins fan living in Tejas.
However, as far as large cities go, Dallas is a worldclass city. The fans I have known are much like myself. Rabid about their own team. The Boys like the skins have a proud heritage of East domination, and Super bowl wins. My HATRED is born much from respect, as rivals competing for the common goal. I have never been to Philly, don't have a desire to go. My impression of the fans is disgraceful. Take Rocky 1-5 out of the equation, and you have a third world country. NOT THE SAME THING! Playing them is "Takin' out the TRASH"

The Dallas vs. Philly debate reminds me a lot of a college basketball parallel. My father went to Duke, so I've been bred with a preternatural disdain for UNC. When the Maryland program had their great run a few years ago and UNC was on the schneid, the Maryland fans I know said that they were Duke's rivals now. Duke fans thought the Terps may have been a better team, but that doesn't make you a rival. UNC and Duke will always be rivals, like Dallas and Washington. There may be spirited competition between other franchises, but if you only get one rival, you can't change it because one side or the other slips. When Jimmy Johnson took over the Cowboys, they promptly went 1-15. The season was a success, because the "one" was the Redskins. Would the same be true if the Eagles were the team they beat? I doubt it. We have a chance to sweep the Eagles this year. Though I hope it happens for playoffs sake, will I tell my children about it like I did Monday morning when I got home? Not likely. We swept the Cowboys. This was a very good year.

Re: Redskins-Cowboys Rivalry: Does it Still Top Your List?
Because of rampant free agency, these rivalries just are not what they used to be. Today a player is one of the good guys, tomorrow he's on the other side and I find it hard to get jacked against a guy I like a few months earlier. I think the same is true for the players, unlike the old days when they were the same guys on the same teams playing each other year after year, it was a real rivalry now its a big game but not the hated rival of the past.
Free agency has been good for the players but bad for fans of old rivalries like me. |

also I wanted to add I don't hate Eagles or their fans cause they are beneath contempt. I have been to Philadelphia. I stayed in the only nice area in the city. It is only a matter of time before Philly completes its transformation into Camden NJ. I liked the energy on South street, as it got darker, it got way thuggier. I went for a hockey playoff game and couldn't believe the behavior of their fans. I was with three other large guys who were ready to fight if necessary, but I saw some really sad behavior from their fans.

Re: Redskins-Cowboys Rivalry: Does it Still Top Your List?
I hate Dallas more for all the heartbreak they've caused us over the years, and I hate their fans for being bandwagon, flag waving types only during the good times.
That said, I hate Philly fans far more than Dallas fans, because just listening to a Philly fan, you'd swear they've won 4 Super Bowls. At least Dallas and Washington fans have a history to back their trash talk. With Philly fans, it's all false bravado, and when they know they don't have a leg to stand on in the debate, they resort to picking a fight. Note to Philly fans - just shut the f' up about Andy Reid, his brilliant salary cap management, and your wonderful team until you've won something. |

First, there are multiple nice sections of the city. If you've been to South Street, you probably stayed in Center City which encompasses several nice neighborhoods, from Rittenhouse Square to Old City. There are several other very nice parts of Philly like Chestnut Hill and Roxborough in the Northwest, University City where U of Pennsylvania is located, and Manayunk in the west where you'll find some of the best local music and bar scenes in the entire country. Areas just surrounding the Center City area get rough. I work at Temple Health System, which is located just north of Center City, and it's very rough around here. West of University City is very rough. South Philadelphia is rough in sections. So if you found Philly rough, it's probably because the nice section you were in was surrounded by rougher areas. But if you actually visited other areas your tune would change. I have no problem with ragging on Philly fans because they are crass and moronic. But don't rag on the city when you don't know what you're talking about. Saying it's transforming into Camden is asinine. Luxury condos are springing up all over Center City, the city's population is growing thanks to folks who are migrating from the suburbs into the nice sections of the city. If anything, Philly is growing nicer. |

All this is not to say that the fans who show up at the Linc are not assholes. They are assholes. They go to get drunk first and watch football second. But you can't let football fans be the only people that guide your impressions of a city. For every rabid Philly fan, there are 10 other very sane people. Not everyone around here is nuts.

Re: Redskins-Cowboys Rivalry: Does it Still Top Your List?
i hate dallas. but recently i've hated the giants the most. it might be because a good friend of mine and his family are NYG fans. i hate tiki barber. i think i just hate that whole filthy state (apologies to the NY 'skins fans that live there).
i do HATE keyshawn johnson and roy williams. just thinking about them makes me hate dallas more. but then i think of gap toothed strahan and that makes me hate the giants more. did i say that i hate tiki barber? he's good but no one knows why. he shouldn't be. i'll be at the game this weekend so hopefully we can crush those chumps as an early xmas present. i never did hate the eagles that much. i guess bc they dominated so much for a few yrs it wasnt really close. mcnabb never was a bad guy but the more i see him hawkin' soup the happier i am that they blow. |

Re: Redskins-Cowboys Rivalry: Does it Still Top Your List?
I say that Dallas is still our biggest rival and will always be. With that said Philly is pure hatred. I hate the fans and that city so much.
One poster was 100% right. They talk about the eagles as if they have won 5 superbowls and they have never accomplished anything. As much as i dislike Dallas I was rooting for the cowboys on quite a few occasions against the eagles because I hate the ignorance and stupidity of Eagles fans. |

Re: Redskins-Cowboys Rivalry: Does it Still Top Your List?
To add another thing most Cowboys fans are tolerable. The ones from Dallas aren't that bad. The dallas fans that really annoy me are the ones that live in the Washington area and have never been to dallas. Those are the cowboys fans that I usually hate because they don't know much about football.
