Re: Redskins Cuts

Well that's good news in case of an emergency. I can't see it being something they use now and whatever money isn't used rolls into 2014 cap dollars.

@MarkMaske: Cofield agreed to reduce his salary from $4.05 million to the minimum $840,000, receiving the remaining $3.21 million in bonus money.
Wow. I wouldn't do that if I was Cofield (because who are we getting on our roster that would require about $3 million in cap space, plus I think he already reduced his salary once), but good for him.

It is basically emergency money for the season barring injury.

Why not sooner when we could have used that cap space for shopping, Barry?

I wonder if it is a move to go after this guy: Jairus Byrd reportedly wants Buffalo Bills to trade him - NFL.com

Wouldn't that be interesting?

Could the Redskins pursue a trade for Jarius Byrd? - Son of Washington

Just another story to add to yours.

Well, they got guys like Barnett clearly out of necessity. And Gumbs is just some sort of fluke/miracle. But you can tell especially by looking at the practice squad roster, and from comments MS has made this summer, that they were keen on going with and rewarding the guys who have been practicing with them all spring and summer.

It's also possible they never asked Cofield or Bowen before now.

It's also possible that they needed the money at this point because with the season starting roster bonuses are probably kicking in

Re: Redskins Cuts

why not get it up front and guaranteed? his contract isn't big enough (and he's played well enough) that it's not like it's going to force the skins to cut him over this.

Left-handed speed QB...looks a lot like someone we're playing on 9/9.

I also think they like to reward guys who work hard and get better. Helps players appreciate the staff. Notice we signed only players from our own camp to the PS.

I had the same question about Grossman.

Re: Redskins Cuts

Grossman was always a lock for the #3. White was a surprise but again I don't think he's here for very long. He's a luxury we can afford for now. Cousins is fine.
