Per Tandler how shit could work with Cousins:

If the Redskins want to try to tag and trade Cousins, the transition tag would be a much better vehicle to use. The practical effect would be the same and the Redskins would not have as much cap space tied up during the process.

There doesn’t really need to be any winking and nodding involved; the Redskins can give Cousins’ agent permission to talk to any or all teams at any time. Here is my understanding of how it could work out after the Redskins put the tag on him. 1) Cousins works out a deal with, say, Denver. No offer sheet is signed. 2) Cousins goes back to the Redskins, signs the tag, and the teams execute a trade that was agreed to beforehand. 3) Cousins signs the new deal with the Broncos.

There are a lot of moving parts to such a deal but there would be benefits for all three parties. Cousins appears to want out and this would assure him that the Redskins won’t match an offer sheet. The Broncos will be able to get their man without needing to use a heavily frontloaded contract, which they really can’t afford. And the Redskins would be able to get compensation for Cousins. A lot can go wrong here so there is no guarantee they could pull this off, but it is the best-case scenario of Cousins’ departure is inevitable.

Now, they may not have known he'd demand a high contract after this season, but that's a ridiculous assumption. Why give up a second for a guy you thought might not do well? Why would you think you wouldn't have to pay him if he did play well?

Only thing I wasn't sure on was the transition tag. I didn't think the Redskins could get any compensation with the transition tag, but apparently they can. In that case, then that is clearly the best option to go. The media seems to think Cousins wants out. I would assume they already know something, and I would assume the tag and trade is being looked into, if not already agreed upon. Again, I'm thinking if you haven't heard anything about a LTD shortly after the Super Bowl, then this is probably the route Cousins and the Redskins take.

I think the fanbase is, at best, divided on Kirk Cousins. You'll have some, just like with RGIII, who will stick with Cousins no matter what. You'll have some who will have always taken the route of "Not My Quarterback" (Probably left over RGIII fans), and then some of us who are so sick and tired of the offseason situation with Kirk Cousins that we're ready to just say eff it, let Cousins walk if that's what he wants.

I would love to have Kirk back, I have said that the whole time but this just seems like 2 parties that want a divorce but won't admit it. Kirk has had a chance to sign a LTD and it wasn't a low ball offer according to reports last summer.. north of 20M is a good deal IMO. The team doesn't want KC and KC knows that so he's playing the nice guy and "well we'll see what happens" or "I want to be wanted" Typical response every off season from Kirk.

I don't blame him for wanting to be wanted. We all want to be wanted. At least that's what I want! LOL!

I think we'll know soon enough. I think if the FO wants Gruden to succeed, then they'll do this sooner rather than later, that way Gruden knows what to expect and can better prepare for what's ahead.

From what I’ve heard, and I asked a lot of people this week, It seems it’s more likely than not that Kirk plays for the #Broncos next year. And the contract details mat be very interesting. Arizona in the mix as well.

If they sign Kirk, I don’t expect a QB at 5.

These people are idiots, and are not Redskins fans. RG3 played himself out of the NFL, it wasn't a conspiracy against him. You can be a heinous mfer and still have a job in the NFL as long as you are good.

If Kirk walks, I'm over it. But I'll never be over how incapable this team is of running a smooth operation. As a side note, Baker Mayfield sucks and if this team really is thinking about trading up or selecting him I have no faith in the system.
